Understanding the bandwidth speed of a vswitch to complete various command settings, the bandwidth speed of a vswitch is a very important concept, how to understand it becomes a matter of our attention, this article from the command settings to understand the speed and bandwidth, the differences between speed and bandwidth on vswitches are explained in depth.

For network users, network communication speed and network bandwidth are the two most important parameters. The speed directly determines the time for downloading and uploading data, thus directly affecting the network access efficiency such as page browsing; bandwidth is another measure of enterprise network usage. It is short for "band width. In a sense, the amount of bandwidth directly determines the network access efficiency.

In fact, for users, the bandwidth speed of a switch can be assigned an equal sign, which is a parameter to measure the network transmission efficiency. But do you know the difference between speed and bandwidth on a vswitch? When do we need to configure the port speed? When will it be more appropriate to set the bandwidth? Today, I will introduce the speed from my own experience. The bandwidth speed of a switch varies greatly with that of a switch.

1. Identify the speed and bandwidth from the instruction settings:

Readers who have experience in configuring route switching know that we often use two parameters when configuring vswitches. bandwith represents bandwidth, and speed represents speed. In actual configuration, we can use speed100 to set the port speed to MB, and use bandwidth2000 to set a port to limit the bandwidth of the switch to 2 MB.

Ii. Differences between speed and bandwidth on vswitches:

As mentioned above, we can configure the speed and bandwidth of the port separately through speed and bandwidth. What if we want to set the speed of a port to m to be able to use bandwidth100000? Or do I have to limit the bandwidth speed of a port switch to 2 MB? Can I use speed2 to specify the speed to 2 MB?

I believe that many readers have the same questions as me. In fact, the author's tests have found that no matter whether we pass the speed100 or bandwidth100000 command, in the end, the transmission speed of the port will not exceed 100 MB, which is equivalent to the speed limit. The two commands have the same effect. Similarly, when speed2 or bandwidth2000 is used, the bandwidth is set to 2 M, and the network traffic speed will not exceed this limit.

Since both commands can set the network speed, are their functions the same? Or can they be used at will? The answer is no. They are different in some functions, which is why the routing switch manufacturer sets two commands for speed. In some cases, we must use the bandwidth command to set the port speed. In other cases, we need to use the speed command to limit the port transmission speed.

Application of Dynamic Routing Protocol: Experienced network administrators know the importance of the routing protocol in enterprise network communication. Through dynamic routing protocol, we can achieve automatic addressing of network data packets, even if a network line fails, you can use the dynamic routing protocol to quickly find another new path for data transmission. Dynamic Routing Protocols greatly simplify the workload of network management and increase the flexibility in practical applications.

However, the "best" Path of the dynamic routing protocol is usually calculated by some algorithm. The possible considerations include load, reliability, MTU, latency, bandwidth, and so on. The bandwidth is set by the bandwidth command. To put it bluntly, we can use bandwidth to reduce the bandwidth speed of a vswitch when we think the transmission performance of a line is poor, so that the dynamic routing protocol does not give priority to this line when selecting a path.

The bandwidth setting command is used to modify the default bandwidth values of each line on each port in a wide range of applications. With this command, we can flexibly manage the Intranet, enables data packets to be transmitted in a more reliable path. Setting the speed command to limit the port transmission speed does not affect the bandwidth value, and naturally does not affect the path selection.

Therefore, for the path selection of dynamic routing protocol, bandwidth can be used to modify the path priority, and speed setting does not affect the selection of Dynamic Routing Protocol paths. For network users, network communication speed and network bandwidth are the two most important parameters. The speed directly determines the time for downloading and uploading data, thus directly affecting the network access efficiency such as page browsing.

Bandwidth is another measure of enterprise network usage. It is short for "band width. In a sense, the amount of bandwidth directly determines the network access efficiency. In fact, users can draw an equal sign for bandwidth and speed. They are parameters to measure network transmission efficiency.

But do you know the difference between the speed on the switch and the bandwidth speed on the switch? When do we need to configure the port speed? When will it be more appropriate to set the bandwidth? Today, I will introduce the speed from my own experience. The bandwidth speed of a switch varies greatly with that of a switch.
