The following Unicode problems were found in Macromedia homesite 5.5 and homesite + 5.5.
The character set cannot be set to the UTF-8 code page in homesite, so UTF-8 files that hold double byte characters cannot be properly displayed on the edit tab. This issue is recorded as Macromedia issue 47134. |
Solution: If you have a web document created in homesite, you want to add Unicode characters to the document, but cannot add it because homesite lacks the Unicode Character Set, you can use NotePad to insert Unicode characters into the document. This solution applies to Windows 2000, XP, and Server 2003 operating systems. Before proceeding, make sure that the code page in the language is installed on your computer. You can install the code page through "Control Panel"> "region options.
- Create a web document in homesite and save it as Unicode; keep this document open in homesite.
- Windows 2000 only (skip this step for Windows XP or Windows Server 2003 ):
Open this document in notepad and change "format"-"font" to "Arial Unicode ms" or "lucida sans Unicode ".
- Enter the Unicode character. You can directly type it in notepad, or copy and paste it from your browser to notepad.
- Save the file in Notepad: "file"> "save ".
- Switch to homesite. When you are prompted to reload the file, select "yes ".
- In homesite, select the Browse tab. Unicode characters should be properly displayed now.
Important: you cannot save the file again directly in homesite. If it is saved in homesite, all Unicode characters are displayed as ??? in the browser ???. Therefore, after step 2, you should change and save the file in notepad. |
