URL design recommendations
1. The shorter the URL, the better.
This is mainly to facilitate the user's memory, especially the domain name, must be simplified with connotation. For seo/seo.html "target =" _ blank "> search engines, if the URL contains no more than 1000 letters, indexing is not affected. In addition, a survey showed that the click rate of a short URL is about 2.5 times higher than that of a long address. In addition, short URLs are also conducive to replication and propagation.
2. Avoid too many parameters
If possible, try to use static URLs. If it cannot be implemented technically, try to reduce parameters when using dynamic URLs. There are too many parameters, and the user does not look good, and it will also have a certain impact on search engine indexing.
3. As few directory levels as possible
The directory hierarchy refers to the physical directory structure. Of course, the physical directory hierarchy is closely related to the website classification structure. There are many classified directories, and the Directory levels will inevitably increase. When using static URLs, try to use fewer directory levels, because Baidu is more likely to include pages with fewer directory levels. Of course, you cannot place all the pages in the root directory. In this case, the website directories are very messy, so that the search engine cannot find which pages are under which columns, which is inconvenient to manage.
4. The file and directory names are descriptive.
For a website-specific URL, the directory should be descriptive, that is, when you see your URL link, you will probably know what it will be.
5. The URL contains keywords.
If the keyword appears in the URL, it can also improve the page relevance. It has some advantages in ranking. The higher the keyword, the better. Therefore, the keyword effect in the domain name is the best. However, in Chinese websites, there are no Chinese characters in URLs, so we can use the keyword pinyin, which also has a certain effect.
6. All lowercase letters
There are two reasons.
1. All lowercase letters are easy for manual input, so mistakes are not made due to case sensitivity.
2. Some servers are case sensitive, such as Linux servers.
3. Robots.txt is case-sensitive. A letter may cause a directory not to be included.
7. Use a hyphen
We recommend that you use hyphens (-) to separate words in a directory or file name. Do not use underscores (_) or other symbols or letters, because the hyphens in a search engine URL are treated as spaces, the underline is ignored.
8. Is the classification in directory or file format good?
The content of the URL is the same, that is, there are two different URLs on the same page, which is not conducive to indexing. Webmasters can choose one of them.
9. URL standardization
URL normalization refers to the process in which search engines select the most appropriate URL as the real (standardized) URL.
Examples of common nonstandard URLs:
The same homepage appears with four different website addresses, with or without a domain name ending with an index.html file name.
There are the following reasons for non-standard URLs:
1. CMS system causes different URL links to the same article.
2. URL static settings are incorrect. There are multiple static URLs in the same article.
3. After the URL is static, both static and dynamic URLs coexist and both have links and can be accessed.
4. Encrypted website, http: // and https ://.
5. There is a port number in the URl.
6. Tracking code.
7. The homepage content is displayed.
Problems caused by URL standardization
1. Scattered page weights are not conducive to ranking.
2. External links may also point to different URLs and distribute weights.
3. The canonicalized URL determined by the search engine is not the one the webmaster wants.
4. If the problem is too serious, the indexing will also be affected.
5. Too many pages with the same content may be considered as cheating by search engines.
URL standardization solution
1. Make sure that the cms system is used to generate only the canonicalized URL, whether static or not
2. All internal links must be consistent and direct to the standardized website.
3. In 301, all nonstandard URLs are switched to normalized URLs.
4. All the XML website maps submitted to the search engine use the canonicalized URL.
And other methods.
