About this series

This tutorial is the 1th part of a series of tutorials that describes the techniques used to develop autonomic computing using the Ibm®autonomic integrated Development Environment (AIDE) toolkit. This tutorial is a one-stop tutorial for new users of AIDE, designed to make it easier to use the AIDE Toolkit, related technologies, design concepts, and examples that come with the toolkit.

The other tutorials in this series will describe how to deploy contact points on multiple platforms, including linux®, MYSQL, and Apache. After completing this series of tutorials, you should have a good understanding of the development of autonomic computing on both the general platform and the open source platform.

The main benefits of autonomic computing on these platforms are standards-based manageability. Many operating software systems either have dedicated point management tools or are fundamentally not managed. As a result, resources are wasted because the automated management process is not functioning. Worse than that, many of these systems are not optimized to be susceptible to partial or total failures and external attacks.

The manageability requirements for autonomic computing include self-configuring (self-configuration), self-healing (self-optimization), self-tuning (self-optimization) and self-protection (self-protection) Therefore also known as Self-chop. This requirement lays the foundation for the idea of autonomic computing, where software and systems are not sufficient to produce and deploy, and must be added to the standard open management capabilities of these entities (software and systems), and must go beyond the functionality implemented using specialized tools and methods. IBM's vision for such management functions is largely made up of contact point concepts, which are a relatively thin layer of software that interacts with managed resources to help meet automated management requirements.

The target audience for this series of tutorials is anyone with a certain programming knowledge and a desire to better understand the growing system and software requirements for management. The purpose of this series of tutorials is to help autonomic computing programmers get as high a productivity as possible. With this in mind, this tutorial will discuss in an open manner any problems encountered with this software and propose workarounds and solutions that cannot be obtained from the Help file!

About this tutorial

This tutorial describes how to get started with the AIDE Toolkit, starting with installing and starting with the toolkit, detailing how to create a complete contact point. In the process of learning how to use this technology's initial knowledge, you will learn how to use and modify the contact point samples that come with this package.

Because this tutorial is entry-level, a common platform is used: any platform that supports Eclipse and AIDE Toolkit. For example, MICROSOFT®WINDOWS®XP is enough.

In this tutorial, you will learn how to use the AIDE Toolkit to create fully functional, autonomic computing contact points. In addition, you will learn how to modify and test the contact point code.
