This article introduces how to use Configuration Manager to deploy applications.

Applications in Configuration Manager contain the files and information required to deploy the software to the device. The application is similar to the package in Configuration Manager 2007, but contains more information to support Smart deployment. An application must contain at least one or more deployment types, including the installation files of the software package. By using the deployment type with the application, the administrator can create an application that contains multiple installation files of software packages on different platforms (such as Windows computers or iOS devices. Configuration Manager can then use the rules configured by the Administrator to determine which software package is installed on which device.

Applications in Configuration Manager support user-centric management so that administrators can associate specific users with specific devices. Administrators can deploy software for users and devices without remembering the names of user devices. This feature helps administrators ensure that the most important software is always available on each device accessed by a specific user. If you have purchased a new computer, you can automatically install your application on the device before the user logs on.

Applications in Configuration Manager support status-based monitoring, which allows administrators to track the last application deployment status of users and devices. These status messages display information about a single device. For example, to deploy an application to a user set, the administrator can view the compliance status and purpose of the deployment in the Configuration Manager Console. You can use the "monitoring" workspace on the Configuration Manager Console to monitor the deployment of all software. Software deployment includes software updates, compliance settings, applications, task sequences, packages, and programs.

Deployment types supported by Configuration Manager 2012 R2:

1)WindowsApplication Package (. AppxFile ):Use the Windows application package file to create a deployment type for Windows 8 or Windows RT.

2)WindowsApplication Package (inWindowsApp Store ):Browse to the computer on which the application is installed, specify the link to the application in the Windows application store, and create a deployment type for Windows 8 or Windows RT.

3)Microsoft Application Virtualization 5:Use the Microsoft Application virtualization Virtualization 5 package file to create a deployment type.

4)Windows PhoneApplication Package (*. XapFile ):Create a deployment type using the Windows Phone application package file.

5)Windows PhoneApplication Package (inWindows PhoneApp Store ):Create a deployment type by specifying a link to an application in Windows Phone.

6)IOSApplication Package (*. IPAFile ):Create a deployment type by specifying a link to the iOS app in the app store.

7)AndroidApplication Package (*. APKFile ):Create a deployment type using the Android Application Package file.

8)Google PlayOnAndroidApplication Package:Use the. cmmac File Created by the cmapputil utility to create a deployment type for the Mac computer.

9)WebApplication:Create a deployment type that specifies the link to the Web application. This deployment type is a shortcut for installing Web applications on your devices.
