The latest Fedora Core 5 has been released. If you haven't downloaded it, I suggest you download its DVD version, which will create great convenience for future use.
After installation, we can see that there is a significant change in the fc5 menu structure:Program"Add/Remove software" appears at the bottom. With this tool, we can easily install or reverse install the required software on the GUI.
Because the software in FC is open-source and there is no copyright dispute, mplayer and xine, as we need, are not provided. I will write down the installation experience and share it with you. I hope it will be helpful for new users (I am actually a newbie. You must have the root permission to perform the following operations.
First, set/etc/yum. repos. d. Move all the files under the directory to a directory (copy them back when upgrading from the FC website), and open/etc/yum in a text editor. conf
Add the following content at the end:
[A_local]
Name = my local Repo
Baseurl = file: // MNT/fc5
after adding and saving, create the fc5 directory under/mnt
# mkdir/mnt/fc5
load the downloaded fc5dvd image to this directory, my dvd iso file is stored in the/soft directory. Run the following command on the console:
# Mount-o loop/soft/FC-5-i386-DVD.iso/mnt/fc5
after completing these steps, execute "Add/Remove software"
to easily add/delete all the software packages in the release board. If you have used
synaptic before, you will find that the two programs are very similar.
next, import the freshrpms.net software warehouse. The Pioneer cat accesses the Internet and then runs it on the console (one line is required)
# rpm-IVH http://ftp.freshrpms.net/pub/fre... 1.1-1. FC. noarch. rpm
Run "Add/Remove software" again.
after the main interface appears for a moment, click "Search", enter mplayer in the text box, and press Enter, after the result is displayed, click the check box before the mplayer and mplayer-Gui software packages, and click "application"
after checking the dependency... download the software package... install... after several automatic steps, you can find mplayer in the audio and video submenu under "application.
after a period of use, I feel very happy that the function, ease of operation and Stability of fc5 have reached and exceeded the level of MS Windows.
