During map data processing, we often encounter such problems: for example, you can download map files nationwide online, but you only want, for example, if you want a map in Wuhan, Hubei province (haha, because I am studying here), how can you cut the map data source out of what you want? This article provides a detailed explanation of the solution to this problem.
Prerequisites: You already have a map layer file in ESRI shape format, and you have a basemap that limits the scope you want to cut (of course, install ArcGIS-related desktop software, this must be done ).
How do I get the basemap? Because my basemap has been ready-made, I have not used the ArcMap plotting tool for related operations. However, there is a feasible method, which can be mentioned below: you use another map software MapInfo to convert an ESRI national map layer to a MapInfo tab format layer file (how to convert? You can refer to another post in this blog, "MapInfo layer format to ArcGIS layer format"), and then open it in the Mapinfo desktop environment, you can draw a contour directly on it, erase the external traces of the contour (note that you have to erase it, you can use the "full graph" tool to test), and then convert it to the ESRI format layer, and you will get the basemap.
The procedure is as follows.
1. Open the arctoolbox toolbox In ArcMap
Click the red button in the toolbar (SEE) to bring up an arctoolbox tool box.
2. Call the clip tool in arctoolbox
3. After the clip tool is successfully called, the following dialog box appears:
Then we started a simple cutting operation.
1. Add the profile layer of Wuhan city to the layers of the map as a national map layer.
2. Use the outline layer as the base map, and enter the base map path to clip features (or select a layer from the drop-down list or click browse on the right ).
3. Specify the directory of the output conversion file in the output feature class. Click OK to convert.
Repeat the preceding steps to layer the layers to be cut as input features. The conversion result is saved under the directory specified by the output feature class.
This requires a new cut map within the scope of the contour layer.
