Search Engine optimization with Google sitemaps

Address: Google sitemaps to help you SEO

(Sub-note: This article on Google launched a free service Google Sitemap for a number of application analysis, to optimize the site can play a great help. )

What is Google Sitemaps?

Google Sitemap looks like a simple XML document that lists all the pages on your site, but what Google Sitemap does is far more important than listing the pages. In fact, you can get a glimpse of Google's ideas through this stuff-and it can tell you a lot about how Google sees your site!

Why should you use Google Sitemaps?

Until Google Sitemaps was released in the summer of 2005, optimizing a website for Google was still a guessing game. A Web page may be deleted from the index by Google, but the webmaster is confused. Similarly, a site content is retrieved, perhaps only because of some quirk of the search algorithm, and the only rated page may be "about us" or a company news report.

As a webmaster, we are only Googlebot by the whims of the Google Crawler, and this seemingly arbitrary algorithm can make a site rise overnight or reduce its ranking on search engines. There's no way we can communicate with Google about a site--whether it's knowing what's going on, or telling Google when the site is updated.

All this has changed since Google released Sitemaps, but it became truly useful after Google updated it with several new tools in February 2006.

So what is Google sitemap strictly about, and how do you use him to improve the ranking of your site? Well, here are two root causes for using Google Sitemaps:

    1. Sitemap gives you a way to tell Google about your site's valuable information;
    2. You can use Sitemaps to understand what Google is focusing on your site.

What can you tell Google about your site?

Believe it or not, Google needs to be sure that the webmaster has the means to communicate with them about important information about their site. Although Google Crawler has done a good job of finding and paging pages, it lacks the ability to evaluate the relative importance of a Web page and other pages. After all, many important pages on the Internet are not properly "optimized", and many people do not care about the time they spend on connecting the best content (and many of the people who couldn ' t care less about spending the IR time on linking campaigns create some of the best content.

So google gives you the ability to tell them how important it is to look at a page relative to all other pages (using 0.0 to 1.0来 as a yardstick). Using this system, you can tell Google that your home page is 1.0, and that each of your products is 0.8, and your standalone product is 0.5. The address and contact information of your company can only be rated at 0.2.

You can also tell Google how long your pages will be updated and when each page is last modified. For example, your homepage may be updated daily, and a specific product page may only be maintained once a year.

What Google can tell you about your site

You have the ability to tell Google what information is useful, but you don't even have to create a sitemap file to enjoy having a Google Sitemaps account.

That's because even if you don't have a sitemap file, you'll still be able to learn any bugs that Google Crawler finds on your site. As you may know, your site will not be "interrupted" because the crawler has difficulty crawling the page. Google Sitemaps will tell you about pages that it can't crawl and links that can't follow up (follow). As a result, you will be able to understand the problems in your pages and fix them immediately before your page is taken out of the index by Google.

You can also learn how people search for your site. Of course, most web analytics tools can give you this information, but if you're using a tool that doesn't provide this functionality, it's always nice to get it for free from Google.

But the best part of this sitemap program is the new Page Analysis Module (section), which was added in February 2006. This page provides you with a list of two keywords (word). The first list contains keywords that Google crawler has based on your site's content that is relevant to your site (site content bar). The second list contains the keywords that the crawler found and links to your site (entry link bar)!

Unfortunately, Google restricts the number of keywords in each list to 20 ( sub-note: I'm looking at more than 20 sitemaps, probably Google extensions). As a result, the entry link bar is partially similar to "http", "" www "," com "and the like of the Waste of keywords ( sub-note: I have something inside the keyword actually: see, big, Stand, medium, the most, the millisecond and so on meaningless words ... Can the search "millisecond" run out of my station? But when boring can catch some meaningless keywords, see how the combination to find their own site: D, and these keywords are basically for all the site is effective (hey, Google, you can not put these keywords from the report to block out? )。 That is to say, this checklist can provide you with a way to determine if your site optimization measures are effective.

When you compare these two lists, you can have an idea of how Google sees your site. If the keywords that appear in your site's content bar don't really represent what you want Google Crawler to think of your site, then you should know that you need to redouble your efforts (tweak your copy??) To make it more focused on your core content.

On the other hand, if your entry links don't contain any keywords that you think are appropriate, perhaps you should focus on that direction.

In addition, you need to try to get the two lists to be consistent ( sub-note: Khan =. = The gap between my two lists is really big ... You should make your entry links keyword as much as possible to match your site content keywords. This means that Google has a clear understanding of the center of gravity of your site.

Additional benefits of the Sitemaps program ( Sub-note: This is the benefit??) )

Google has already begun to notify those who are involved in sitemaps sitemaps-participating if they are violating any of Google's webmaster Guildlines. This is a valuable piece of information-when your site is suddenly indexed by Google and you don't know why.

Only Sitemaps participants were able to get the message, and it depended on Google's decision. In fact, if you create a site that is worthless and does not provide original content, or you create thousands of bridge pages to jump to other pages ( sub-note: My favorites are not counted =. =), Google will not notify you of these. Google will not let those sp@ammers get any clues that will help improve their technology.

How do I get started with Google Site maps?

First you have to apply for a Google account. If you already have a gmail,adsense, or an AdWords account, that's fine. If not, you can go to the Google Account page to register an account.

If you are familiar with XML, creating your sitemap file is fairly straightforward, and you will be able to use third-party tools such as those listed on the Google site. Google also has a "Sitemap generator" that you can download and install on your server, but unless you're a veteran of Python scripting, you'd better choose those third-party tools.

Anyway, once you have your Google account and your sitemap file is created, the rest is simple. All you have to do is:

    1. Log in with your account;
    2. Enter your website address in the "Add Site" box, and click OK (OK);
    3. Click on the link you added to the admin site and add your sitemap file to your account.
