You can use the file Search command in Office 2003 to find files in any of the following working environments: on your computer's hard drive, your local area network , Microsoft Outlook mailboxes, and your network Places. You can also find e-mail messages, meetings, and other information in your Outlook mailbox. The search operation provides two ways to find files: Basic Search and advanced search.
Basic File Search
Basic Search is the most comprehensive search for files,Outlook items, and Web pages. You can find files that contain the specified text in a title, content, or property. You can also specify the scope of the search file and the type of search file.
Advanced File Search
Advanced Search is more explicit and is used to find files based on file properties. You can do this by creating a query that is a collection of one or more rules that must be met by the found file. An example of a query is "the author is (precisely) anonymous". It specifies that the author attribute of the file to be searched should contain only the text "anonymous".
Natural Language Search
Natural language search searches for Microsoft Outlook items from the Basic File Search task pane using familiar session expressions such as "Get all mail from Jane" or "Find all meetings next week". With natural language search, you can search for e-mail messages, calendar items, contacts, tasks, and notes. Natural language Search is supported only in the English version of Microsoft Office 2003.
Although you can include more information in natural language queries for better search results, you do not need to use complete sentences or care about the correctness of the grammar. For example, the following natural language queries are correct: "High priority tasks."
Natural language Search searches for the contents of an Outlook item, such as the body of an e-mail message, and the properties of the item, such as the subject of the meeting and the priority of the task.
Note For documents on your network place or on your computer, although natural language search is not supported, Office file search uses the information in natural language search queries to find the files in those locations.
