In fact, the layer mask is a very important function in Photoshop and one of the channels. Here, I will explain the usage and specific application of a layer mask to the majority of beginners.
A layer mask is a mask that is not actually displayed for a certain layer. It is represented as a channel in photoshp, it is used to control the display area, non-display area, and transparent area of the layer. The black area in the mask is not displayed in the area of the operated layer, the white color indicates that the area in the layer is displayed. The gray color between black and white determines that this part of the image is displayed in a semi-transparent manner.ProgramIt is determined by the gray level. In the mask, the black part is hidden after the application, and the white part is displayed.

Next, let's take a look at the specific operation process of using a layer mask:
1. Add a layer mask to a layer:

Select the layer for which you want to add a layer mask, and click the "add layer mask" sub-menu under the "layer" menu. There are two commands under this menu, one is "show all" and the other is "hide all". "Show All" means that when this is used, the system will directly display the entire layer, that is, fill in all the layers in white, to hide all, the opposite is true. First, the layer mask is filled with black. The selection is determined based on your own needs. First, select "show all ".

2. Draw a layer mask:

Next we will use the black to white gradient tool to make a vertical gradient on the image, because the layer is currently being masked, so the image itself will not be affected, only a gradient appears on the layer mask.

The image you see is displayed based on the color of the gradient mask. The top of the mask is changed from black to white, so that the image is not displayed until transparent and then displayed.

3. Other operations on the layer mask:

Right-click a layer mask and a shortcut menu appears. The bottom of the menu is about the layer mask operation.
The layer mask option is used to control the color and transparency of the layer mask,
"Remove layer mask" means to remove the layer mask. during use, you will be asked if it is applied. After the application, the image will be generated based on the effect of the layer mask. If it is not applied, the layer mask will be deleted, "Disable layer mask" means to temporarily close the layer mask but not delete it.
