With the development of business, almost all enterprises now have their own small and medium-sized data centers and even transnational data centers. However, many enterprises have been due to hardware damage, viruses, human error, and other causes of important business data loss. Therefore, it is very important to establish a set of perfect core business data backup and recovery system to protect enterprise core data.
Systems Center Data Protection Manager (DPM) is part of the Systems Center product suite. It provides unified protection for Windows servers, such as SQL Server, Exchange, SharePoint, virtual machines, file servers, and so on. It also protects desktop clients and notebooks based on Windows operating systems. The new version of DPM not only provides disk-based and tape-based protection, but also enables backup and recovery with the storage in the cloud.
First, introduce the new features and enhancements of the next SCDPM2012:
Centralize the management of multiple DPM servers.
Remotely administer the DPM server.
Multiple DPM servers are supported to share an instance of SQL Server (as Dpmdb).
Perform certificate-based authentication for computers in a workgroup or untrusted domain.
Optimized the item-level recovery for the SharePoint farm.
Improves tape usage by protecting the group set.
Support for VMM host protection.
A new user interface.
It also reinforces support for Hyper-V and Windows Azure and Windows8 in SP1.
The retention period for SCDPM2012 backup data can be divided into:
Short-term protection for disk based on the 1-64-day retention period;
Short-term protection based on tape selection for up to 12 weeks of retention period;
Long-term protection options based on tape for up to 99 year retention period;
The size of the SCDPM2012 storage capacity depends on the size of the protected data, and Microsoft recommends that the storage pool be twice times the size of protected data.
This article describes how to use the SCDPM2012 SP1 to protect the Active Directory and Exchange messaging systems in your enterprise. A total of three parts:
