Use the Dreamweaver file library to update websites

When we create a relatively large website, there will be many secondary page frame models and even some small details elements are the same, but what is disturbing is that it takes some twists and turns to update them over and over again. Now we can say goodbye to that era, because DW introduces the concept of "database. We can use it to update the same elements in the website in batches. Up to the entire page frame, up to one character!
The introduction of the database in DW3 is not perfect yet, but it is near perfect in DW4. Next let's take a look at how to use the library to update the site:

I. Create a library file
There are two ways to create a library file: one is to select an element in the editing state, open the database panel (F11 key-select the icon in the pop-up Assets to mark the opened book sample) and press. Then DW will automatically create a file with the suffix ". LIB" to read this element into the file, and create a "Library" folder on the local site. It indicates that each database file is independent. When we upload a local site to a remote server, we need to upload the file together. The second method is to open the database panel, right-click the white File Record area, select New Library Item (New Library project) in the pop-up list, create a blank Library file, and double-click it to open it for editing. The first method is applicable to the creation of library files with small elements such as text, image, and link. The second method applies to the creation of large-scale full-space library files. In most cases, the creation of large-scale library files is used with templates.

II. Application and editing of library files
We have created some simple library files, including connecting \ Image \ table. Each of them can be understood as a single element inserted into the editing area, as long as you drag them directly from the library panel to the desired place. Note that the inserted library file is locked. Their display method is pale yellow. When you select a library file to view the code, you will find the following tag "***", which indicates a complete library file and ends at the beginning. You can change the tag location, but do not delete them. In this case, the library file will be damaged and return to the pure edit state.
There are two ways to edit a library file. One is to double-click a library file in the file record area of the library panel to enter the editing status. 2. Right-click a Library file and select Open Library Item in the pop-up list to enter the editing status. After the library file is edited and saved, the pages in the editing state that are using the file are automatically updated. If the library file is used on other non-editable pages, a prompt box is displayed automatically.


Ask if you want to synchronously update all pages on the local site that use this file. This function is the biggest advantage of library files. After the website is created, all files are uploaded together with the library folder to the remote server. When we change a library file while connecting to the remote site, the same will be prompted by DW.


Check whether all pages of the library file are synchronously updated on all sites. Click OK to update the files on the remote site.

So far, we have a rough understanding of the usage of the database. As for the skillful use of this function, you need to do more on your own. We believe this function will greatly facilitate site updates.
