Provide clear visual feedback for your gestures

After a click or gesture is completed, visual feedback is provided to the user, which gives the user a sense of satisfaction that is about to achieve the expected effect. However, when a user faces a new application and a new gesture, visual feedback not only exists to confirm the user action, it is more important to clearly tell users what the effects of such gestures will bring.

Negative example: Moke is a third-party Weibo client. After you complete the sliding gesture from left to right in a Weibo area on Moke's main interface, the effect on the left is displayed, the area of the microblog will move to the right and leave a certain gray blank. If you slide from the right to the left, the microblog area will move to the left and leave a gray blank. If you download and use this application for the first time, you will not know what effect this gesture will trigger. Such visual feedback lost its original intention.

Positive example: It is also a third-party Weibo client, and the same gesture is completed in a Weibo region. The visual feedback from Fuubo is relatively clear, after the gesture is completed, a gray half circle will appear, and the half circle contains a small icon for forwarding or comment, giving the user a clear information about what his gesture will bring.

Summary: Add text or icon information for visual feedback of gestures. text or icon information should be clear and easy to understand.

Prepare a transitional effect for your gesture

The transition effect adds a visible texture to the gesture and provides the changes that you can notice. At the same time, the transition effect also provides users with the opportunity to undo their gestures.

Positive example: It is IFAN's iOS client. When you switch to the main interface, you can see that while sliding to the right, the left half of the interface to be returned is gradually displayed, in this process, if you want to undo it, you can slide the sliding finger back to the opposite direction, see. In this way, the transition effect is used to win time for the user, and the user can decide whether to perform this gesture operation.

Negative example: For the same application, after clicking an article, the switching between the article body and the comment page disappears from the transition animation. After the gesture is complete, users are disgusted with the hard drive.

Summary:

  • Adds a transition animation effect to a gesture;
  • You can use the transition effect to select an undo gesture.
