Using filters and brushes to turn characters into grey sketch effects

The tutorial used a little bit like the previous tutorial, but there are some differences.

Before processing, the author uses color and pattern overlay to make some textures, and then uses filter and layer overlay to make preliminary sketch effect, and then use the set brush to paint some lines on the mask to increase the sketch.

1. Open the photo you selected in Photoshop, then click "Layers" in the menu > new fill layer > Solid color, name this layer "Gray fill" and click OK. Select Light Gray in the color picker.

2, click "Layer" again > new fill layer > Pattern, click the Drop-down menu in the pop-up dialog box, click the right arrow, then select Gray paper, choose fiber Paper 1. Scaling can be extended to 340% (the original is written, but my picture is small, so it only expands to 260%), and click OK. Set this layer blending mode to soft light, opacity 35%.

3, double click the background layer to unlock, select the duplicate layer, name the duplicate layer "illuminate the edge," drag this new layer to the top (Ctrl + Shift +]), point menu "filter > Styling > Illuminate the edge, use these values: Edge width 3, edge brightness 11, smoothness 10 ( Personally feel the adjustment parameter is to deepen the contour line.

4, will "illuminate the edge" layer against color, "image" > ">" Inverse "(ctrl+i), this layer only needs black and white, so go to" image ">" adjust "> go color (ctrl + Shift+ U), set layer blending mode to multiply and opacity 15 %。

5, copy the background layer again, name the "sketch layer" and drag to the top of the layer. Still use image > Adjust > Go color (Ctrl + shift+ U)

This layer is based on the drawing layer, which needs to add a bit of contrast, image > Adjustment > Brightness/contrast. Contrast slider drag to 22 (almost black and white on it, you can use Ctrl+shift+l to automatically adjust the color of the photo), now set the layer blending mode to darken, opacity set to 100%.

6, we need to add some noise to simulate the effect of the paper, so click the menu "Filter" > Noise > Add Noise. Use 12% of the amount (this is the value of the author, specifically depends on the case), select the Gaussian distribution, monochrome. As pictured.

7, add a layer mask to this sketch layer, use "Layer > Layer Mask >" Hide all, in order to have the feeling of painting, only in the mask with a special brush repeatedly light.

8. Select the Brush tool, open the brush selector (press F5), and then click the arrow on the right side of the selector and select the dry media brush. In the brush preset, scroll down the thumbnail, select the coarse texture crayon; In brush tip shape, click More dynamic, set opacity jitter, control to pen pressure, press shape dynamic, and set size jitter to pen pressure; set minimum diameter 70%. "

9. Note that if you do not use the drawing board, you must occasionally control the opacity of the brush (using the Opacity slider inch of the option bar)

10, now can start sketching ...

Make sure the foreground color swatch is white. (press D reset foreground background color, x= flip forward background color) Increase brush size 20~25 pixel (I set 4pt ....) 11, at first, just focus on the characters of the main facial features of the graffiti. Use small pressure on the stylus, or reduce the opacity of the brush. It's easier to doodle on facial features, and it's better to change the direction of the brush to create a better shadow effect.

12, the use of a large number of crossed lines overlap painting. Please note that there is no actual sketch technique here, we apply it just to show the image under the mask.

13, can use the keyboard "[" and "]" to control the brush size, continue to smear on the mask, remember to keep loose strokes, around the facial features to paint the tone. In the hair, you can use a large size brush to make the strokes more brief.
