The main components in the vsphere kit include esxi, vcenter server, vsphere client, and vsphere Web Client.

As one of the core management members of the vsphere suite, vcenter is responsible for managing esxi hosts and plays an important role throughout vsphere.

The environment I use here is: two esxi hosts (esxi5.1.0 installed), one ad includes DNS (WIN Server 2008, domain: baby.com), and one vcenter (WIN Server 2008 installs vcenter5.5.0, an iSCSI storage is installed at the same time. The topology is as follows:

1. esxi Installation

Esxi needs to be directly installed on a physical host (Dell's ESX 380 and Dell's ESX 3010). I installed it on a USB flash drive, which is very simple. It is actually the same as installing a Windows system. After the installation is complete, the IP address and access address of the current system are displayed in the monitor. Access the esxi address directly from the client browser.
Note:
1. During installation, the machine must have at least one network card and plug in the network cable.
2. Set the IP address to static after installation.

2. vsphere Client installation

After the esxi installation is complete, you need to use the client software for connection, such as creating a resource pool and adding virtual machines. Here, you can use the access page of The esxi host installed in the previous step of the browser to download the vsphere client software (included in esxi) to the local device and install it.
You can use the vsphere client to connect to both the esxi host and the vcenter host to manage all esxi hosts in a unified manner. Of course, using the vcenter to manage the esxi host is more powerful. Here we first connect to a separate esxi host to see the effect.

3. Install vcenter Server

We recommend that you use the domain environment for vcenter installation. Of course, you can also use the current host IP address as a unique identifier. I am using a domain user (baby.com) for installation. Before installation, you must first add the current host to the domain, and then log on to the system using the domain user for installation, the installation is also very simple, and the next step is the last step.
After installation, you can use the vsphere client to connect to vcenter, start the client, and enter the vcenter IP address or domain name, user name, and password to log on. After logon, you can create a data center, add an esxi host for management, add storage, and create a resource pool and virtual machines.

Note:
1. We recommend that you install vcenter server in a domain environment.

4. Access vcenter using vsphere Web Client

Starting from vsphere 5.1, we officially recommend using vsphere Web client to replace vsphere client. All new features added from vsphere5.1 can only be used through Web Client, vsphere client only provides functions earlier than 5.1.
Of course, the installation of vcenter 5.5.0 has already installed and started the vcenter Web server by default, usually port 9443 of vcenter, for example, my vcenter web server access address is https://vcenter.baby.com: 9443/vsphere-client.

 
Note:
1. when accessing the VM console from a Web Client, install the remote console plug-in as prompted to Disable IE Security.
2. If vcenter is not installed in the domain environment, you need to add the IP address of the host file accessing the Web Server client to the vcenter ing of the vcenter host name. Otherwise, the connection times out when you access the VM console.
3. Set the browser to access the Compatibility View.
