Confirm that the wireless adapter is correctly installed

1. Open the Device Manager. To run Windows Vista, click Start. type devices are in the Start search box, and then click in the device Manager program list. If you are using the administrator password or for confirmation, you are prompted to enter the password, or click Continue. To open the Device Manager in Windows XP, click Start and run, type devmgmt. msc, and then click OK.

2. Expand the network adapter and verify whether the wireless adapter is displayed. If the wireless adapter is not displayed, one or more of the following problems may cause this problem:

◆ Wireless network adapters may not actually exist. You must install a wireless network adapter before connecting to the wireless network.

◆ The wireless adapter may not be properly connected. Shut down the computer, and delete and reconnect to the adapter.

◆ If the adapter is a USB adapter, a problem may occur on the computer with a USB port. Test your USB port by connecting to another USB device, such as USB mouse. Confirm that the USB port is working properly. If multiple USB devices are disconnected from the computer, no device is required.

3. Verify that the wireless network adapter has a yellow exclamation mark or red "X ".

◆ A yellow exclamation mark indicates that a device is faulty.

◆ Red "X" indicates that the device is disabled. Right-click the device and click Enable.

4. Double-click the wireless network adapter. On the General tab, verify that the device is working properly.

Verify that the wireless network is available

After we install the wireless adapter correctly, check whether the wireless network is available.

Note if the wireless adapter is an integrated device such as a built-in wireless network adapter on a portable computer, you may need to enable it through a switch or shortcut key. See the Computer documentation, help files, or technical support department.

May not have the same information as the network configuration for your computer's wireless (WEP) security settings.

It may be caused by a problem with the configuration of your wireless access point.

The wireless adapter may conflict with other network adapters on the computer.

◆ If the wireless network name is not displayed, true may be one or more of the following conditions:

The wireless network may not exist.

Wireless access points may be configured with no Broadcast SSID.

It may be related to your wireless access point. Check all connections and ensure that they are on the power supply.

There may be conflicts between wireless adapters and other network adapters on the computer.
