1. As a backup role in the system center, it acts as a disaster recovery role in the private cloud architecture, corresponding to Windows Server backup in the traditional IT architecture, from DPM 3.0 (version 2010) up to now 4.2 (2012r2 version), DPM has been well developed. First, let's take a look at the hardware requirements of DPM:

In addition, DPM copies the file directory to a temporary DPM installation location before archiving data to a tape; therefore, it is recommended that the DPM-installed volume contain 2-3 GB of available space.

2. Check the system requirements. It is different from scvmm. It does not require 2012r2, but 2008r2sp and above:

3. It is not officially opposed to putting DPM together with the system disk, but I suggest installing it separately from the system disk like scom, SCCM, and scvmm, and installing it on the data disk. My personal suggestions are as follows:

L one disk dedicated to installing the DPM Server

4. If it is a single-architecture DPM, It is recommended in Microsoft's best practices:

L it is not recommended to be installed with the Web Application Server

L it is not recommended to be installed with the scom Server

L it is not recommended to be installed with the Exchange Server.

L it is not recommended to install DPM server on a computer that acts as a cluster node.

5. In addition, the type of disk used as the DPM storage pool under special points must be dynamic, which is important because Microsoft has more detailed recommendations (http://technet.microsoft.com/zh-cn/library/hh758176.aspx) on system requirements ).

6. Explain the data that is not recommended or cannot be protected by DPM:

L The disk type is not NTFS

L files smaller than 1 GB in size (this is because DPM uses the VSS technology, that is, the Shadow Copy technology, and the threshold for creating a volume in VSS is greater than or equal to 1 GB)

L file hard connection

L recycle bin File

L paging file

L note: To protect DFS file servers, we recommend that you protect DFS server nodes instead of namespaces.

7. the backup plan depends on the environment requirements. I will not give any suggestions here. The principles of synchronization can be discussed here:

A) Determine whether the file is changed through proxy

B) determine which files have been changed

C) verify the data block of the file and synchronize it. (changes made during synchronization are transferred to the DPM server. After the synchronization, the results are applied to the data source and the DPM copy)

8. Suggestions on tape backup:

L it is best to use full backup for data that requires a relatively long protection period

L complete, full, or Incremental Backup can be used for short-term protection data

L short-term protection is recommended for DPM servers without tapes or tape libraries on disks

L it is recommended to provide short-term protection for long-term protected data

9. Suggestions on storage pool:
