Vmware copies a VM (vmwarecopy/clonevm)
Today, my colleague asked me how to copy a VM that has been configured. I have studied it. In fact, this function is quite useful. The main method is as follows:
1. Select create VM
2. This step is very important. select Custom (use other devices or specific configuration options to create virtual machines)
3. Give the VM a loud name
4. Select the target storage of VM files. By default, click Next]
5. select the VM version. Generally, the host or cluster supports multiple VM versions (4, 7, 8). For example, if my version is 5.5, select version 8.
6. Select the virtual machine's customer Operating System (this depends on the VM you want to clone or back up)
7. Select the number of virtual CPUs in the VM. By default, click Next]
8. Select the VM memory size. The default value is enough. click Next]
9. Set the network for the VM and select the number of virtual network cards and adapters required by the VM. By default, click "Next]
10. Select the vm scsi controller. By default, click "Next]
11. This step is very important. Select the type of disk to be used. We will select "use existing virtual disk and re-use the previously configured Virtual Disk"
12. Select an existing disk (Disk File Path), that is, which disk you want to use as the virtual disk, select Browse, select datastore, and find the vmdk format file of the VM. [Next]
13. Specify the advanced options of the virtual disk. Normally, you do not need to change these options. By default, you can directly [next]
14. Click Finish.
