VMware virtual machine file (suffix) detailed

The file management of virtual machines is performed by VMware Workstation, a virtual machine that is typically stored in a host of files in a series of documents, typically in the directory created by workstation for virtual machines.
The extensions for these key files are listed here. In these examples,,<vmname> represents your virtual machine name.

. log
&LT;VM Name>.log or Vmware.log
This file records the situation in which VMware workstation to the virtual machine tuning operation. When you run into problems, these files are very useful for us to make a fault diagnosis. This file and the virtual machine's configuration file (. vmx) are stored in a directory.

This is a file that stores the BIOS status information for the virtual machine.

This is a virtual disk file that stores the contents of the virtual machine's hard drive.
A virtual machine can consist of one or several virtual disk files. The size of the virtual disk determines the number of virtual disk files if you have specifically specified the virtual disk as a single file per 2GB. As data is written to the virtual disk, the virtual disk files become larger until the files are 2GB. (If you've already allocated all of the space when you created the virtual disk, the files will have the maximum size and no longer become larger at the beginning). Almost all of the virtual disk file contents about the disk data in the virtual machine, only a small part of the virtual machine partition information.
If the virtual machine is connected directly to a physical hard disk rather than a virtual disk, the virtual disk file holds the partition information that the virtual machine has access to.
Earlier versions of VMware products used the. DSK extension to represent the virtual disk files.
<disk NAME&GT;-&LT;###&GT;.VMDK

A virtual machine paging file that is used to back up the main memory information that the client holds on the host. This file exists only if the virtual runtime or after the crash.

The snapshot that is established for each virtual runtime corresponds to a. vmem file that contains the resident memory information of the client, which is part of the snapshot.

This is a file that stores the relevant information and metadata for the snapshot. In its directory, some other files may exist only on virtual runtimes. (And it won't go away)

This is a snapshot status information file that records the status information of the virtual machine when you set up the snapshot
<vmname>-snapshot<###>.vmsn
This is also the file that stores snapshot status information.

This is a file that stores the virtual machine suspend status information. Some earlier versions of VM products used. Std to represent this file.
. Vmtm
<vmname>.vmtm
This is the configuration file that contains the virtual unit data.

<vmname>.vmx
This is an initial configuration file that stores some settings for the Virtual Machine Wizard or the virtual Machine editor. If you are using a VM virtual machine under Linux, the extension of this file is. cfg.

This file is a supplemental configuration file in the virtual machine. Note that when the virtual unit is removed, the file is preserved.

Some files in the directory exist only on virtual runtimes.
