Vmwarevm network settings

VMware virtual machines are well-known virtual machines, especially those studying computers and researchers. After my observations, I found that most people had a headache about virtual machine network settings. Today, I will talk about my views based on my experience and tutorials from my predecessors. I hope this will help you.In order for me to better express and achieve your best understanding, I will describe the virtual network in the following two aspects.
Section 1: Network Layer Recognition of virtual networks
First, I will show three common default VPC settings. Overview of network settings:

VMware Workstation is a professional Virtual Machine software developed by VMware. It can Virtualize any operating system and is easy to use. Nowadays, many people have computers, but most people only have one or two computers. It is not enough to set up a local area network or a small-scale lab machine. At least two or three computers are required, however, it is not worth buying a computer. Fortunately, many virtual machines can help us solve this problem. Virtual machines can Virtualize many hosts on one computer, as long as the real host configuration is sufficient.

The complete Use process of VMware Workstation software is divided into three parts: creating a new virtual machine, configuring the installed virtual machine, and configuring the Virtual Machine network. The latest VMware4 is used.

3. Configure the Virtual Machine Network

Virtual machines are not enough. We need to use virtual machines to communicate with real hosts and other virtual machines. Communication is divided into two parts: one is in the LAN and the other is connected to the public network. This part focuses on the use of the three different models.

1. Bridging Mode

Topology:

If your real host is on an Ethernet network, this method is the easiest way to connect your virtual machine to the network. A virtual machine is like a new computer with the same physical status as a real host. In the bridging mode, all available services are available, including file services and printing services, in this mode, you will obtain the easiest way to obtain resources from the real host.

2. hostonly Mode

Topology:

The Host-only mode is used to establish an isolated virtual machine environment. In this mode, the virtual machine and the real Host are connected through the virtual private network, only in the same Host-only mode and connected to a vswitch can access each other. In hostonly mode, only private IP addresses, IP addresses, gateways, and DNS are allocated by VMnet 1.

3. NAT Mode

Topology:

The NAT (networkaddresstranslation) mode can be understood as making it easy for virtual machines to connect to the public network. The cost is that other functions in the bridge mode cannot be used. All virtual machines that use the NAT structure are provided by VMnet 8 with IP addresses, gateways, and DNS. The following describes the specific operations.

Bridging Mode:

As mentioned above, the bridge mode is the simplest. After the bridge mode is used, the relationship between the virtual machine and the real host is like two computers connected to a hub, and they want to communicate with each other, you need to configure the IP address and subnet mask for both parties. We can see that if you do not configure the virtual machine, the virtual machine cannot obtain the IP address assigned by DHCP, so you can only use 169. 254. this section. Some friends once tried to change the IP addresses of the VMnet1 and VMnet8 NICs generated after the VM is installed on the real host. This is wrong, drivers connected to underlying hardware do not need or can be modified.

21. If the IP address on the NIC of the real host is configured as the IP address segment 192.168, the IP address of the virtual machine must be configured as the IP address segment 192.168 so that the virtual machine can communicate with the real host. If you want to connect to the internet in the bridge mode, the method is also very simple. You can directly install a dial-up terminal on the virtual machine ,:

22. After successful dialing, you will be able to access the internet. Do not think that virtual machines are fake dialing, but also fake dialing. At this time, you are already paying for the internet! Of course, if you want to access the Internet through ICS, NAT, or proxy, there is no difference between the practice and the normal computer.

Hostonly mode:

There is no big difference between the Hostonly mode and the bridge mode. In the hostonly mode, the DHCPserver of VMnet 1 provides the IP address, gateway, and DNS.

23. if you try to manually assign a fixed IP address, you will find that even if you combine the IP address with a network segment of the real host, you will not be able to contact the real host. This is your limitation of VMnet 1, therefore, the IP address provided by VMnet 1 is the only choice.

24. If you want to access the internet in hostonly mode, you can only use ICS and proxy, because only these two methods can access the internet with DHCP.

NAT mode:

First of all, we need to know that the NAT in VMware and the NAT in routingandremoteaccess in windowsNT have no relationship at all, and there is no impact between them. The main advantage of using the NAT mode in VMware is that it is extremely convenient to hide the Virtual Machine topology and access the internet. In NAT mode, the DHCPserver of VMnet 8 provides IP addresses, gateways, and DNS.

25. As in hostonly mode, if you try to manually assign a fixed IP address, you still cannot communicate with the real host due to VMnet 8 restrictions. However, it is very easy to access the internet in NAT mode. You do not need to configure it. You only need to connect the real host to the internet and then the virtual machine can access the internet.

26. VMware has more than these NAT functions. It can even implement port ing and TCP and UDP blocking!
Don't you think there are any disadvantages? Yes, there is an important function that hasn't been mentioned yet. The reason is that this part is the most complex, that is...

Virtual Network Settings

I don't think the average user can use this part of the function, because it is used to build a very complex LAN Using the highly scalable network model of the VM, I believe this is the essence of the new VMware.

28. this is a complex topology instance of VMware. It customizes VMnet 2 and VMnet 3. These are all used to define DHCP and NAT for each VMnet. In short, they are very complicated, in addition, this can only be used when the Virtual Machine Group is very large.

Well, the introduction to VMware is here. If you have good English, you will find that the content in this article is far from deep. In fact, as a virtual machine software, what it brings us is not only the ability to virtualize a single system, but also the ability to virtualize a large and complex network. This article is just a glimpse. You can pay attention to the timely update of the IT Certification Examination resources and original sources.
