Scope of user availability and access control testing

User availability and access control are two sides of a user's access to the data process. From the usability point of view, users want to have an open environment, easy and accurate access to their desired information; from the point of view of access control, it is necessary to ensure that user access to the data is strictly controlled, and only authorized users can access the corresponding data. These two aspects are exactly the two aspects that we need to be aware of in our web product testing, and we need to consider the trade-off between them, which is not the ideal scenario that the user expects to see at any one extreme.

User Usability Test Checklist

1.1 Check all font sizes to ensure content is readable

Font size should be appropriate, when a variety of content displayed in the same page, you need to pay attention to whether the conflict between each other. In particular, note whether the text has a broken part, such as the display of text is beyond the display range and the scroll bar does not appear. Also, when the user adjusts the browser's text display size, the page content is still readable, there is no arrangement of confusion.

1.2 Check the overall look and feel of the Web page

On the usability test of the product, many situations are actually a user's "feeling". When users feel bad, we need to think about whether there is room for improvement. This is also all the product design and development of the important purpose, because all products are to serve the customer.

It is often said that first impressions are important. When the user first opened the Web page, see the appearance of the product, the first impression has deeply affected the customer. What's the first feeling you see this time, and how it looks in general, is important to the user's initial experience. Once the first impressions are made, it usually takes a lot more effort to change that impression. Therefore, in the development of web products, it is necessary to ensure that there are no obvious problems and especially awkward places. Once the customer feels bad, we first need to think carefully about how our products need to be improved.

Figure 1. Appearance Test Example

The above illustration shows a time-date-related definition window, and functionally, there is no obvious problem. But on the whole, the fonts in the sense map use the exact same font, which makes it difficult for the user to distinguish between the classification and subdivision options, because both fonts and colors are the same. From the perspective of user availability, it is necessary to distinguish between the name of the category and the specific options, which can be distinguished by bold text, enlarged font size, italic, change color, and replacement font, to help make it easier for users to differentiate categories and refinement options as a whole.

1.3 Whether the task is canceled when you exit from a task in the Web page

When a user performs a task in a Web page, if the user exits the current page directly, does the task being performed cancel? From a product design perspective, if you can give a hint when the user is about to leave, and ask the user if they are sure to exit the page if the current task is not completed. In the event of a user forced to leave the current page, the product needs to protect the consistency of the data, reasonable implementation of rollback and other operations.
