  Standby (Standby)

After switching the system to this mode, in addition to memory, the power of other computer devices will be interrupted, only memory depends on the power to maintain the data (because the memory is volatile, as long as the power loss, the data will not be). This way, when you want to recover, you can revert directly to the standby state. This mode is not completely power-hungry, so if there is an exception (for example, a power outage) in standby, the next time you can only reboot, the unsaved data will be lost before standby. But this mode of recovery is the fastest, generally within five seconds can be restored.

  Hibernate (Hibernate)

When you switch the system to this mode, the system automatically shifts all of the data in memory to a dormant file on your hard disk, and then cuts power to all devices. This allows the system to read the contents of the hibernation file directly into memory from the hard disk and revert to the state before hibernation. This mode is completely free of power, so it is not afraid to sleep after the exception, but the cost is a piece and physical memory of the same size of hard disk space (fortunately, now the hard drive has been across the TB level, large-capacity hard drives are cheaper). This mode of recovery is slower, depending on the size of the memory and hard drive speed, generally 1 minutes or more, or even longer.

Standby mode is mainly used for power saving, which allows you to return to work without restarting your computer. Standby mode turns off devices such as monitors and hard drives, fans, and so on, keeping the entire system in a low-power state. When you reuse a computer, it quickly exits standby mode, and the desktop (including open documents and programs) is accurately restored to the state of waiting.

To remove the wait state and reuse the computer, move the mouse or press any key on the keyboard, or quickly click the power button on your computer.

Please note! Unlike the "hibernate mode" described below, Standby mode does not store unsaved information on your hard disk, which is stored only in computer memory. If there is a sudden power outage, this information will be lost. Therefore, you should save the file before putting the computer in standby mode. If you want to automatically save your work when you leave your computer, you can use Hibernate mode instead of Standby mode. However, hibernation mode shuts down the computer.

  2. "Hibernate" Power management mode

When you use Hibernate mode, you can turn off the computer and be sure that all work (including programs and documents that you haven't had time to save or shut down) will be restored exactly to the state you left when you came back. In-memory content is saved on disk, monitor and hard drive shuts down, while saving power and reducing computer loss. In general, the time required to put the computer out of hibernation is longer than it takes to release the wait state, but the dormant state consumes less power.

If you are often interrupted at work, such as some secretarial occupations, and you have to answer the phone while you are working on a computer, you can consider setting up your computer to enter the automatic sleep mode after a specified number of minutes. Hibernate mode saves everything in memory to your hard disk, shuts down your monitor and hard disk, and then shuts down your computer.
