eMMC (embeded Multimedia card):
is a built-in memory standard specification made by the MMC Association, designed specifically for mobile phones and Tablet PCs. eMMC is simply an embedded storage solution that integrates a controller in addition to the conventional memory and provides a unified standard interface.
eMMC's design concept is to simplify the use of mobile phones, tablet computers, the NAND flash chip and control chip design into 1 MCP chips, tablet customers only need to purchase EMMC chips, do not need to deal with other cumbersome NAND flash compatibility and management issues. EMMC's biggest advantage is to shorten the time-to-market and development costs of new products and speed up the product innovation.
MMC Association board members include: ATP, Asus, Gemplus, HP, Infineon, Intel, Itri, Kingston, Lexar Media company, Micron Technology, Nokia, Power Digital card, Samsung Electronics, Silicon Motion. After the latest eMMC4.5, eMMC's new specs will be dominated by the UFS (Universal Flash Storage) of Samsung Electronics, which will even pack up RAM packages in the future, and Samsung has a rare adversary in this regard.
