What is the difference between SOAP, XML-RPC, and REST.
SOAP, or a Simple Object access protocol, is an Xml-based object invocation protocol that was originally developed for distributed applications that communicate over HTTP. SOAP defines how to access the platform-independent services using XML and HTTP.
In contrast, XML-RPC is a remote procedure call protocol that works on the internet and is actually an XML-RPC message that Http-post requests. The entire request body is encapsulated in XML. The server performs a process, and its return is formatted as XML.
REST is not quite the same. REST (representational state Transfer, the expression status pass) is a technique for implementing WEB Services using XML documents plus standard HTTP, which uses well-known HTTP operations (put, get, POST, DELE TE). The API for this service attribute is created by the definition of the URI and XML document, and the XML document marks the data structure required for the request/response. REST has a number of useful properties, such as the ability to use standard firewalls for security, standard caching for performance, and everything else that you can do with SOAP and XML-RPC.
