Tips for installing power management software:
Tips for installing the Lenovo Settings software:
Affected model: ThinkPad
Affected systems: all pre-installed systems with flight modes, such as Windows 7, Windows 8, Windows 8.1, and Windows 10
Cause analysis:
This is a normal situation. The flight power mode in Lenovo Settings and power management software is automatically enabled based on the aircraft seat power security design.
Here, we will introduce what is the flight mode and the flight power mode.
Flight mode: a mode provided by the operating system that enables or disables all wireless devices.
Flight mode trigger conditions:
1. Enable/disable using the shortcut key (Fn + F5/F8) or press the symbol menu in the lower right corner of the screen;

Flying power mode: a mode used in Lenovo Settings and power management software to reduce power consumption and protect power output of aircraft seats. The initial design was due to current aviation safety standards that imposed power limits on electronic devices powered by aircraft seat plug. In flight power mode, the power consumption of the device must be less than 60 W. So in order to ensure flight safety, the power supply above 60 W will be automatically converted to 60 W, some laptops in the flight power mode will stop the power supply reception of the external adapter. This feature is enabled for machine hardware configuration/power consumption, BIOS/EC/FW, and power management.
Flight power mode trigger conditions:
Automatic trigger:
1. When the Wi-Fi access point of an airplane is detected through the SSID for more than 3 minutes, the flight power mode is automatically enabled.
Disabled: (1) no Wi-Fi AP has been detected for more than 5 minutes. (2) restart S3/S4/S5. (3) manual.
2. when the power adapter is connected and the AC/DC mode is switched three times in 3 minutes, in order to protect the machine from unstable power supply, the flying power mode is enabled and a dialog box is displayed.
A dialog box with Power Management is displayed as follows:

Manual setting
A. You have enabled the flying power mode from the power management/Lenovo Settings using the following Settings:
Lenovo Settings:
Power Management:
B. The flight power mode is automatically enabled when the user opens the system flight mode.
C. Disconnect the wireless device.
A, B, and C can only be manually disabled. They are not automatically disabled when the S3/S4/S5 status is restored.
To sum up:
The flight power mode is different from the flight mode. The flight power mode is a ThinkPad power management and protection mode that limits power input in the Lenovo Settings software. After it is enabled, it can still connect to WiFi, only the power input is limited to 60 W, and the overall system performance is limited. The flight mode is the built-in mode of the system, and all wireless devices will be disabled once enabled.
Solution:
This category is a security design restriction and is not a fault.
