WMV files typically contain both video and audio portions. The video section uses Windows Media Videos encoding, and the audio section uses Windows Media Audio encoding. As a high compression rate, small size and other advantages of the video compression format, Microsoft's WMV is still very influential. However, because of the limitations of Microsoft itself, the application of WMV has not been well developed. First, WM9 is Microsoft's product it must rely on the windows,windows means that the decoding part also need to have a PC, at least have a PC motherboard. This has greatly increased the cost of the set-top box, which has affected the popularity of video broadcast on demand. Second, the WMV technology video transmission delay is very large, usually 10 seconds, because of this limitation, currently WMV is limited to browsing WM9 video files on the computer.
