Brachcache, called branch caching, is a new feature provided by Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008r2 and is a component designed to accommodate an enterprise platform with branch offices. Typically, employees at branch offices are not able to obtain data locally, typically through a wide area network to the files required by the headquarters authority, so that some files are repeatedly accessed.
With Branchcache, windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2, you can increase the bandwidth utilization of wide area networks (WANs) while improving the performance of remote office network applications.
When BranchCache is enabled on Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008r2, information about the Web and file servers on the Corporate wide area network (WAN) is fetched and stored in the local branch office network. If another client in the same department requests the same content, the client can access it directly from the local network without having to get the entire file over the WAN. Before obtaining content in a local branch office, the client is always authorized by the data Center server.
