IPV4 address is divided into a, B, C, D, e five categories, except the special role of D, e two categories, the remaining A, B, C three class address is our common IP address segment. Class A addresses have the largest capacity, can accommodate 16,777,214 hosts, Class B addresses can accommodate 65,534 hosts, and a class C address can accommodate 254 hosts.
In these three types of addresses, the vast majority of IP addresses are
public addresses and need to be registered with the Internet Information Center. However, 3 IP address segments are reserved in the IPV4 address protocol as
private addresses for internal use by the organization.
These three address segments are located in the Class A, B, and C three addresses:
- Class A address: 10.0.0.0--10.255.255.255
- Class B Address: 172.16.0.0--172.31.255.255
- Class C Address: 192.168.0.0--192.168.255.255
Therefore, when the local area network chooses to use the private address, it usually chooses the private address segment according to the number of hosts that actually need to be accommodated. Common LAN because of small capacity, generally choose C class 192.168.0.0 as the address segment use, some large enterprises need to use class B or even a class of address segment as the address segment of the internal network.
Finally, it is necessary to add that, due to the existence of NAT and subnet mask, in actual use, a Class C LAN can also choose the Type a 10.0.0.0 network segment as its own IP address segment. Most local area networks still choose 192.168.0.0/24 or 192.168.1.0/24 as their own IP address segment, more because of the Convention idiomatic or network management personal habits of the relationship.
