Win7 Auto-Install driver shutdown method

Windows 7 automatically installs the driver, which is convenient and user-friendly. However, sometimes the driver and the hardware are not necessarily compatible and are installed and uninstalled. Or for security reasons, you don't want Windows 7 to automatically install drivers.

There are two ways to fix this:

Method One: Change device security settings

1. Click the Start button, type "devices and printers" in the Start search box, and then open.

2. This window contains all the devices connected to the current computer. Includes monitors, keyboards, mice, printers, and so on.

Position the mouse over the icon representing the computer.

[Note that the name of the icon is not our common "computer", but the full name of the computer on the network.) If you are not sure of the computer name, open the Start menu, and then right-click Computer and choose Properties. You can see the details in the system window. ]

To get to the point, position the mouse over the icon representing the computer, right-click, and select Device security settings.

3. A new pop-up window will ask you if you want Windows to download the driver for the device. We choose the second "No, let me select the action to perform." After that, a few more options will pop up. We chose the third item to block the automatic installation of the driver.

[Always install the best driver software from Windows Update] is the system default and most convenient. The second option, "Install from Windows Update when the driver software is not found on my Computer", is more conservative and safer than the first option. The last one, "Never install driver software from Windows Update," refuses to install drivers automatically, and is the safest. ]

When you're done, don't forget to click "Save changes."

Method Two: You can also use the policy group to complete this setup

(Note: This is true for Windows 7 Professional, Windows 7 flagship, and Windows 7 Enterprise Edition)

1. Click Start, type gpedit.msc in the Start search box, press ENTER, and open the local Group Policy Editor.

2. Navigate to the Computer Configuration-> Management panel-> system-> device installation-> device installation restrictions, in the Right Detail window, double-click to open "Prohibit installation of devices not described by other policy settings."

3. Select Enabled and click OK to save the settings.

Finally, restart the computer for the changes to take effect.
