This article is a recording of the process of installing the Ubuntu Kylin 14.10 System and the various issues that have occurred during the installation of the WINDOWS7 system.

Ubuntu System Download

Burn a system image to a USB flash drive

I chose to install a 64-bit version of the system, that is ubuntukylin-14.10-desktop-amd64.iso .

Use the UltraISO software to burn this system image to a USB flash drive.

Allocating space to Ubuntu

Partition a certain size from the hard disk, I use the Windows7 with the volume compression function, the last disk compressed out of 20G space. (Some say it's best to put the partition assigned to Ubuntu in the last segment of the hard drive to avoid errors in the original Windows system partition recognition.) ）

Delete this partition so that it is idle.

Restart your computer to start the installation

Insert the bootable USB flash drive you just made, restart your computer, and boot from the USB stick.

There are several issues to note during the period:

1. Unable to start the installation

Errors may occur after booting from the USB stick, showing:

Then enter to start the installation.

2. Allocating space

The installation process allocates space for different directories in the system. You typically allocate space for the following 4 items:

• /boot: The directory where the Linux system kernel resides
• swap: Virtual Memory
• /: Linux system root directory
• /home: User Data root directory

/boot: The Linux system core is only dozens of m, allocated around 200M.

swap: Virtual memory, if the computer configured memory is less than 2G, you need to swap for real memory twice times, or swap and actual memory size is the same, such as My Computer installed 4G memory, then I allocated 4G space for swap.

/: This is the root directory of the Linux system, including installed software, etc., can be allocated a larger, I allocated 15G.

/home: After allocating the above 3 items, the remaining 2G space is allocated to this section. Because the Linux system can access the Windows NTFS hard disk, this section can be used without assigning too much.

3. Add a Startup item

Ubuntu restarts after installation, but is not yet accessible to the Ubuntu system because there is no boot entry for Ubuntu.

Enter the WINDOWS7 system, run the EASYBCD software, click "Add New Entry", "Linux/bsd", type select GRUB 2 , enter the name of the startup item, "Drive" select the corresponding /boot partition, click "Add Entry".

Reboot. You can see the startup items that correspond to Ubuntu.

Optimized configuration of the newly installed Ubuntu system

After installing the Ubuntu system, I encountered some problems:

1. Mouse Flashing

The first time you enter the Ubuntu system, there may be a mouse flicker problem, the mouse over the place will leave traces.

The solution is:

Enter the system settings, click "Show", you will find two monitors, select "Unknown display", set to "off", OK exit.

2.8 Hours of fast time

The Ubuntu system was installed with the time zone selected, but after installation it was 8 hours faster than the time in Beijing.

Enter the system settings, modify the time zone, or manually modify the time.

3. Ruijie Certification

Hua Ke Campus network needs to use the Ruijie certification, download Ruijie Linux version, decompression.

rjsupplicant.shAdd execute permissions for the script, by opening the terminal in the same directory as the file, and entering and executing the following command:

4. Theme Settings

The theme was modified in the system settings and the original theme was not returned.

You can open the "Best Guest Assistant", which has a theme that is the default theme for Ubuntu systems.
