A placeholder is a placeholder symbol, a box with a dashed or hatched edge, often appearing in a template in a presentation, such as a text placeholder, a table placeholder, a chart placeholder, a media placeholder, and a picture placeholder.

Text placeholders appear as a virtual box on the slide, with the words "Click here to add title" Inside the dotted box, and after the left mouse button is clicked, the prompt automatically disappears, and a vertical bar displays the cursor position where the user can enter the content.
