You may not need a CTO

A friend asked me to recommend a CTO. It is said that a company is looking for someone. It is said that "the project is good" because the previous business is not very Internet-oriented. Now there is a new project to be done. We need to build a social e-commerce community, similar to a foreign website, they said they needed a CTO and asked me if I was recommended.

My reply is: this may not require a CTO. The reasons are as follows:

1. for similar Community products, technology may not be the most important. Of course, I am not saying that technology is not important at all, but it is not as important as I think. In fact, building a forum can be done by any engineer;

2. This product requires strong operational capabilities. In other words, we need to make great efforts to find talents in this field rather than CTO;

3. If the operation is not strong enough or you are not aware of the problem, it is useless to find the CTO;

4. If this company just wants to try this product, it is not feasible to say whether the product is feasible. Why should a person with the CTO capability follow you? If the product cannot be done, what should the CTO do?

5. If someone is only interested in the position of cto, and does not consider the other reasons or even more reasons I have not mentioned, such people have no judgment;

6. cannot be recommended for the above reasons. We recommend that you find a technical manager who can solve the problem first.

Some people say that you are teasing people or raising the bar? Don't bother. Of course I am seriously discussing the issue. Many companies looking for CTO do not need a CTO. In the following stages, I don't think a CTO is required:

1. Is the model feasible when the business is not verified or when a foreign product is cloned?

2. CTO is not required when the team is very small. Early appointment of cto, if his ability cannot expand with the growth of the team, is a kind of damage to the team, it is better to use the title of "technical director;

3. Some start-ups feel that they have a good idea and want to find a partner, but they cannot find it. (This sentence is critical. Why can't they find it ?), So I asked my grandparents to ask my friends to help me find technical partners or CTO.

In this case, I think the CTO should not jump into the fire pit:

1. The boss looks at the Internet and feels like he is making money. He wants to invest millions of yuan to try it, but he doesn't know the technology, so he wants to seek a technical makeup course;

2. After being commissioned by the investors to enter the entrepreneurial team, the team is already in conflict.

The final suggestion I can give is: do not always stare at the title of the startup team, but find someone who can solve the problem and solve your problem. Of course, the premise is that you have identified the people, resources, and problems that your team needs to solve. If you don't know this, you 'd better find a CEO...
