Google's video website YouTube has already begun internationalization and will soon launch a traditional Chinese version in Taiwan. It is not clear the specific time for the launch of the traditional Chinese version and the plan for the simplified Chinese version. For this message, the PR manager for Google China products said no comment.
However, Jian Lifeng, director of Google Taiwan Institute of Engineering Research, recently told Taiwanese media staff that although Google has bought YouTube, the two are still running independently, however, there has been some technical exchanges. With the internationalization of YouTube, Taiwan Engineering Research Institute will provide corresponding technical support in the Chinese market, including the future of Chinese advertising technology, support will also be provided.
It is understood that the English version of the YouTube website has provided Google's Adwords advertising service. Previously, the industry has been speculating on when YouTube will expand the international market. This news exposes its latest initiatives.
In October 2006, Google acquired the video website YouTube in the United States for $1.65 billion to increase its market share in the video field. Before that, Google launched the video service, but it only occupies a small market compared with YouTube.
Some insiders told Sohu IT that the launch of the traditional Chinese version of YouTube in Taiwan may be a test of the Chinese market. Once IT works well, IT may take the opportunity to enter the Chinese market.
If this statement is confirmed in the future, the competition in China's video industry will become more intense. According to recent news, Tudou and Youku have just received tens of millions of dollars in investment from jefeng de and other companies. Youku also raised $12 million last year; others such as Apsara stack also received $23.5 million in capital injection. At the same time, however, fierce competition and funding problems also led to layoffs for video websites such as Huawei.
The Chinese market has always been a must for international Internet companies. Besides Yahoo and eBay, MySpace started to enter China last year. This afternoon, the MySpace China team, CEO of original MSN China director Luo Chuan, will meet the media.
