Gartner: Two quarterly global server shipments grow 27%

"The second-quarter shipments of servers based on the x86 architecture grew by 28.9% and revenue increased by 37%," Hewitt said. risc/Itanium UNIX servers are still in the midst of austerity, with shipments down 16.5% and revenue down 8.8%. Other categories, mainly mainframe, also fell 22.8% in the second quarter. "From all regions, server shipments in Eastern Europe grew most rapidly, with growth of 46.9% per cent in the second quarter and income growth at the same rate, to 26.2%."  Shipments and revenues have grown in varying degrees across all regions.  HP, by revenue, occupies the top spot in the global server market, with its second-quarter server revenues exceeding $3.5 billion trillion, accounting for about 32% of global server revenues, up 3.1% per cent year-on-year.  Dell, Fujitsu and Hewlett-Packard grew in the second quarter of the world's top five server manufacturers.
