5 simple principles to help you fix your product's user experience design

Many things in life are fast-changing, unchanging things are not much, hiding death, and shine seven o'clock in the evening news broadcast. In such a complex and changeable era, how to do a good user experience design? As a user experience designer, I have practiced countless ideas over the years to try to find the ultimate answer to the user experience design.

I want to be complicated, but it's easy to say. During these years of exploration, my biggest feeling is that the user experience designer's job is essentially to penetrate the user's brain to find the answer. We need to know a lot of users in the brain about the real idea of design, dissect the information, sort out the potential problems, and the confusion they face.

In the design process, before and after the continuous user experience design, this is a never-ending process. It is a great challenge for designers to consider user behavior at all times.

I have summed up 5 simple user experience design guidelines and used it as an important reference for my design process in order to always be on the right path for product design. Understanding the design decisions of the user experience design and explaining to the team members, this is a difficult thing, the final implementation of the product, but also need to walk a long way.

  1, easy to digest

Good design should be easy for the user to digest--the brain should not spend a huge amount of brain cells to analyze what the eye sees. If designed to be easy to understand, visitors and users will quickly "get it" without spending half an hour looking at the explanatory text explained in 1000-and-6 paragraphs below.

This is not just a simple design and easy to read copy. The user needs to make the right decision under the right visual guidance, embed 12 pure text menu, such design is outrageous (Amazon's Fire Phone's setup menu is like this, has been spit the slot to pieces). Organize information by font size/weight, color, and icons, and pull up the hierarchy to highlight important information/options that allow users to find what they want faster.

Another example is the common User Guide for new users, usually in the form of small hints covering the interface layer, which are divided into several different steps, clicking one and entering the next. But conversely, you stand in the user's perspective to think, do you really like this thing? A bunch of unexpected instructions in the interface unexpected place to bounce out, you or your users really digest so much information?

Think about it, you try to get users to get information, to do things, and finally will flow like the water in the funnel, it is really a great waste of your efforts and product information. The efficiency and quantity of each person's brain to get information is fairly limited and reasonably used, not too rough.

  2, clear

Good design is honest, this sentence is also the Design Master Dieter Rams said. In addition to conveying your values through content and design, you need to let users know the real value. Ambiguous statements and a product that is not simply cannot win fans.

The core value of the product is defined, and all content is clearly expressed around it. Users who do not know the details of your payment system will not have to click "Buy Now" without any hesitation. Although many teams choose to use a "free trial" to get user information over and over to automatic payment, does this really get the user's trust and approval?

It sounds cheesy, but the golden rule for resolving product sharpness is to explain clearly that everything is transparent and clear and that you want to use things that are clear and intuitive, so you don't have to deceive your users.

 3. Trust

A good design is supposed to be trustworthy and easy to believe. Make every effort to help them understand why this is necessary when the user is asked to perform a certain action. Each step needs to rely on honest and clear expression to build trust, gradually accumulate, a little bit to enhance the user's trust.

Look at Uber, Lyft and Airbnb. These apps are killing a way out of the industry that has been in relative disarray, not just for the subsidies, but for the construction and security of the service system. These apps are very good for user payments and personal information (especially Airbnb), and may be a little uncomfortable when you start communicating with strangers, but you'll be more and more trusting, and trading risk is much lower than others.

4. Familiarity

The breakthrough design is naturally cool, but the heart design is better. The dribbble effect and the new frame look good, but if no one clicks on the Buy button, you're in trouble.

There are reasons for the existence of design specifications for each platform. While it may seem like the design specification is designed to make products look more consistent across platforms, pay attention to the consistent and sticky design details, familiar patterns, identical icons, and a unified style, essentially creating a native feel that makes the user feel familiar.

Of course, these designs are tested on the actual equipment before they know if it is feasible, and if you want to make the user familiar and feel at home on every platform, there is still a long way to go. And this is a tool like Invision trying to help users.

  5, pleasing

Generally speaking, only good ideas are not enough, and good execution can win the competition. The more the design team executes, the less the user needs to do. The more complex problems are simplified, the more pleasurable the user will get from the solution.

When your product is good enough, when the user is given enough pleasure, the user no longer sees it as a "product" or realizes it is a "tool", but as a practical and integral part of life, which means that the product is successful.

Stand on the user side

Building intimate products with clear intentions is a testament to your real focus on product design. Such products allow users to make choices more comfortably and create a better user experience. Product design Whether the intention is actually very good judgment, whether honest design, attentively for the user to consider. A pair of shoes is good, wear it to walk 10 kilometers, when you drag the tired body home, carefully aftertaste wear it every step, know it good. And this is what we face our own products, to do.
