In the previous article, you should know which interface your printer uses. After connecting the printer to the computer using the data cable, select the appropriate port in the driver to print it.

The following describes the serial port printer driver operation steps.

1. Select the correct port number in the driver.

You can view the serial port number of your computer in the Device Manager. (For WINXP, right-click my computer and choose Properties> hardware> Device Manager 8.1 ),

After you open the Device Manager, you can see that each serial port corresponds to a serial port number, such as COM1, com2. .. and so on. The serial port number of the author is com2, 8.2

This serial port number can be modified. If you do not want com2, you can change it to COM1, right-click the communication port, and choose Properties> Port Settings> advanced> COM port number to modify 8.3.

You can change it to another serial port number, such as COM1. Click OK. Then open the Device Manager, view the port, and open the 8.2 interface. com2 becomes com1.

After knowing the serial port number of the computer, select the corresponding interface in the driver. For example, the serial port number of the computer is com2, and the driver of gp5860 is used as an example, open start-> printer and fax to see the GP-5860 serial icon, right-click the icon-> properties-> port select com2, and then click OK 8.4

2. Set the correct baud rate,

The serial printer must be able to communicate normally. The baud rate of the computer must match the baud rate of the printer,

How do I know the baud rate of the printer itself?

Take the Jiabo 58100 printer as an example to make the printer self-check and print out the printer self-check test page (the previous content describes how to print the self-check test page ). The test page is printed at 8.5. If the printer is a serial port, it is interface: Serial 19200, N, 8, 1. All are in English. The translation is the interface: Serial Port baud rate of 19200, no parity bit, 8 bit data bit, 1 bit stop bit, you can see that the printer baud rate is 19200. The baud rate of the printer can be modified. The higher the baud rate, the faster the transmission speed. If the printer has a dial switch, you can adjust the 7th or 8 bit switch to adjust the baud rate, if you do not have the dial switch, you can download the setting tool on the official website of Jiabo to modify the print baud rate.

After knowing the baud rate of the printer, you need to set the computer's baud rate and the printer's baud rate to 19200. The baud rate of the computer can be set in two places. set either of these two places. In the first place, enter the printer and fax, right-click the driver icon, select port, and configure port 8.6. The second step is to open the Device Manager-> communication port-> right-click-> properties-> port settings. You can also open the 8.6 page. The content set in the com2 attribute is the same as that in the printer self-check.

We can see that the port settings are also called data flow control. There are three options: Xon/xoff software handshake, hardware, and none. Data Flow control is used to ensure that the printer receives and prints data accurately. The Xon/xoff software handshake means that when the printer is idle, it sends 5 consecutive 0x11 messages to the computer, when the printer is busy, it will issue 0x13. hardware handshake means that when the printer is idle, the serial port's online RTS foot will be set to a low level, while the printer is busy with a high level. The computer checks the printer status to check whether data is sent to ensure the accuracy of printing. Therefore, you need to select Xon/xoff or hardware handshake, either of which works, it is best to select Xon/xoff. This is experience,

3. Print the test page

Choose printer and fax> Printer Driver icon, right-click, and choose Properties> General. Click the printer test page to see that the printer has started printing. Print 8.7 of content

 

If the printer cannot be printed, check whether the printer is ready, 8.8. If the printer is offline, right-click the printer icon and choose use online printer. Make the printer ready to print

Serial printer driver printing will be slow, you can increase the baud rate, you can change to 115200, according to the above method to reset the printer and the computer's baud rate is the same as 115200. If instruction printing is used, the serial printer speed will be significantly improved. We recommend that you use command printing when using a serial printer.
