You can follow the following three steps to troubleshoot problems.
The first step: check the hardware
Many sound problems are caused by incorrect hardware settings. This step includes checking the sound card, inserting the cable into the correct location, ensuring that the hardware is powered on and checking the volume.
Check your sound card
Check to make sure that your computer has a sound card or sound processor and that it works properly.
1. Open Device Manager in the following ways: Swipe from the right edge of the screen to the middle, click "Search" (if you use the mouse, point to the upper-right corner of the screen, then move the pointer down, click Search), enter Device Manager in the search box, and then click or click Settings and Device Manager. The system may require you to provide an administrator password or confirm your choice.
2. Double-click Sound, Video, and game controllers to expand the category. If the sound card is listed, you have the sound card installed. If your sound card is not listed, check the information that came with your computer to see if the sound card should be installed. If you should install a sound card, you need to follow the manufacturer's instructions to install a sound card.
If there is a yellow question mark next to the name of the sound card in Device Manager, there may be a problem with the sound card.
1. Long press or right click the name of the sound card, and then click or click Properties.
2. Click or click the General tab, and then check the Device status box to determine the problem with the sound card.
If there is a problem, you may need to install a new sound card driver. For more information, see Step 3: Update the driver.
2. Check that the cable is properly connected
Speakers and headphones
If you use external speakers, make sure the speakers are properly connected to your computer.
Many computers have three or more jacks that are connected to a sound card or sound processor, including microphone jacks, line input jacks, and line output jacks. Your speakers should be plugged into the line output jack. If you are unsure which Jack is a line out jack, try inserting the speakers into each jack to see which Jack will sound when you insert it.
HDMI Cable
If you use an HDMI cable to connect your computer to a monitor that supports HDMI and has speakers, you may not be able to hear sounds. The HDMI cable supports audio signals, but not all HDMI-enabled video cards support audio. You may also need to set the HDMI audio device as the default audio device.
USB Audio Device
If you are using a USB audio device and you have an internal audio device installed, try the following basic troubleshooting steps:
Disconnect the USB audio device and restart the audio application. Use the internal audio device to test the sound. If you hear a sound, there may be a problem with the USB audio driver, or Windows does not use a USB audio device as the default audio device
Turn off all audio applications, unplug the USB audio device, wait for the USB driver uninstall to complete (this should be done soon), plug the USB audio device back into the USB port, wait for the driver to load, and then start the audio application and check the sound.
Please check if you are setting the correct audio device as the default audio device in Windows and applications.
Check to see if the audio device manufacturer's Web site provides an updated driver.
Multiple Audio Devices
Some computers may have multiple audio devices. For example, you purchased a new computer and upgraded it to a different video card during the purchase. Most of the time, your computer has a onboard video device (a video chip on the motherboard) and two video cards inserted. You can check to see if there are two sets of audio connections on your computer.
Laptops and tablets usually have a set of audio plugs, unless you are using a USB audio device. Follow these steps to check your audio device and set the correct audio device as the default audio device.
1. Swipe from the right edge of the screen to the middle and click "Search".
(If you use the mouse, point to the upper-right corner of the screen, then move the pointer down, and then click Search.) Enter sound in the search box, click or click Settings, and then click or click Sound.
2. Click or click the Play tab and look for multiple audio devices, which will appear as speaker icons and will have speaker markings in front of the device name.
3. If you have more than one device, a checkmark appears next to the default device with a default tag.
4. If the wrong audio device is listed as the default audio device, click or click the correct device, click or click Set Defaults, and then click or click OK.
5. Changing your audio device may require you to restart your computer. Check power and volume
If you have speakers, make sure the speakers are connected to the working power and are turned on.
Make sure that the speaker volume or headset volume is not muted or low. This check is especially important for laptops and tablets because their speakers are small and it is hard to hear sounds if the volume is too low.
1. Swipe from the right edge of the screen to the middle and click "Search".
(If you use the mouse, point to the upper-right corner of the screen, then move the pointer down, and then click Search.) In the Search box, enter adjust system volume, click or click Settings, and then click or click Adjust System volume.
2. Move the slider up to increase the volume. Make sure the mute button is not enabled. If the button looks like this: The mute is turned off. If the button looks like this: Click or click the button to turn off the mute.
2nd Step: Using troubleshooting
Troubleshooting is an automated tool that you can use to find and automatically fix some computer problems. The Audio troubleshooter can diagnose and fix common sound playback and hardware problems.
Step 3: Update the driver
To have Windows recognize your sound card or sound processor, you need to install a compatible and functional driver. Outdated, incompatible, or corrupted drivers may disrupt communication between your computer and your sound card.
If you recently upgraded from a version of Windows to another version, the current sound card driver might be available only for previous versions of Windows. If you have recently experienced a power outage, virus, or other computer problem, the driver may be corrupted. In rare cases, when Windows cannot automatically update your sound card driver, you may need to download and install the latest drivers for your sound card to help resolve such issues.
There are three ways to find and install a driver:
Use Windows update. Windows updates can automatically download and install the recommended updates. Installing all of the important, recommended, and optional updates can update system features and other software, which may help solve your sound problems.
Install the software from the device manufacturer. If the device comes with a disc, the disc may contain software for installing the device driver.
Download and install the driver yourself. You can search for drivers on the manufacturer's website. 800 million net ms8e.com if Windows update cannot find a device-appropriate driver and the device does not have the software to install the driver, try this method.
To learn more about updating your sound card driver, follow these steps. To learn about Windows-compatible devices, go to Windows Compatibility Center.
To update a driver by using Windows Update

6. On the Windows update page, click or click Install Updates. The system may require you to provide an administrator password or confirm your choice.
The 7.Windows update will tell you if the update was installed successfully. Download and install the driver yourself
If Windows cannot find a driver for your sound card or sound processor, and the device does not have driver software attached to it, you can find the driver on the manufacturer's website. This type of Web site typically provides driver updates in the Support section.
To find the driver, first locate the manufacturer and model name or number of your sound card, and then visit the hardware and software vendor contact information Web site. After you locate the manufacturer, visit its web site to find and download the latest drivers that apply to your sound card.
If you find an updated driver, follow the installation instructions on the Web site. Most drivers can be installed on their own-that is, they usually simply double-click the program file to start the installation, and then the driver installs itself on the computer.
Some device drivers are not installed on their own. If you downloaded a driver that is not installed yourself, follow these steps.
You must be logged on as an administrator to perform the following steps.
1. Open Device Manager in the following ways: Swipe from the right edge of the screen to the middle, click "Search" (if you use the mouse, point to the upper-right corner of the screen, then move the pointer down, click Search), enter Device Manager in the search box, and then click or click Settings and Device Manager.
