The construction of enterprise information systems has been developing for decades and is still in progress. In the face of various problems in the construction process, we try to find one or more solutions. The diversity of enterprise information system construction gives us the opportunity to compare and analyze various enterprise information system construction schemes and find out the problems.
Almost all enterprise information systems have been developed from an early age. This is the use of computers and computer technology to manage or operate business in enterprises. That is to say, the construction of an enterprise's information system is driven by the business needs of the enterprise, and the system can reduce various costs and improve work efficiency for the enterprise. This kind of system development that can bring an eye to the enterprise has become a preference of almost all enterprises, as long as the system that can be developed can solve a business problem of the Enterprise, the Enterprise will go up. This situation has not changed fundamentally.
So what are the advantages and disadvantages of this demand-driven enterprise information system construction model? The advantage is straightforward. Companies invest money, software companies develop systems (survive), and enterprises use systems to improve work efficiency and reduce work costs.
What's worse? For some large enterprises, different systems are developed due to different business needs, so that information in many systems cannot be shared. As a result, more and more business systems are involved, and more cross-cutting business systems are involved. As the business develops, some businesses are gradually eliminated and the system is also eliminated. Many people of insight are eager to develop enterprise information systems in an orderly manner to reduce repeated development, cross-development, and information sharing.
In fact, if we stand taller and look at Enterprise Information Construction under the industry from the perspective of an industry, we will be surprised why these enterprises cannot use the same software, this type of repeated development is too wasteful. However, it was said that every enterprise is different, so the software is also different. There is no big fuss and waste is inevitable.
If we stand on a higher level and look at the information construction of enterprises in different industries from a cross-industry perspective, we will see more clearly that the information construction of enterprises in China is disordered. Some people will say that this is not normal?
This enterprise information system construction model, driven by enterprise needs and developed by software companies, has the following problems:
Internal enterprise:
1) As there is a crossover between services, the developed systems will inevitably form a crossover, resulting in a multi-system crossover problem,
2) The system developed by the Department and region of the business must have the attributes of the department and region. The same business may have different systems because of different departments and regions. For example, the Credit Analysis System of the Beijing Branch and the Credit Analysis System of Nanjing may be developed by different software companies.
3) as it is business-driven, for an enterprise without overall planning, its system construction is completely controlled by business needs. Enterprises seldom consider the overall planning of the information system, leading to disordered construction.
4) as business needs are driven and business needs change frequently, software modifications, improvements, and upgrades are endless.
5) due to disorder, enterprise system investment is large and inefficient.
6) because it is driven by business needs, the level of the system depends on the level of business needs. However, it is difficult for enterprises to propose the highest level of requirements in the industry, in this way, the system level can only be an average level.
Software companies:
1) in order to meet business needs, software companies can only customize software and adopt human tactics to quickly develop systems. Therefore, software quality is hard to be guaranteed.
2) due to custom development, tight time requirements and varied requirements, it is difficult for software companies to concentrate on improving technology, and the technical content of their software is very low.
3) due to the tight requirement on custom development time, the development cost is also reduced (generally, it is difficult for the company to find hundreds of people to develop a software at the same time ), it generally ranges from tens of thousands to hundreds of thousands.
4) The vast majority of the cost of software companies lies in supporting a large number of non-technical Program Member.
5) software companies cannot productize their software and expand their value scope.
In fact, both abroad and in China are facing this problem and try to solve it, for example, ERP, CRM, MIS, middleware, Bi, general financial software, and general MIS generator all choose different perspectives and layers to solve software sharing problems. However, these solutions are of little importance for enterprise information construction. It has little effect. It is far less prosperous than customized software.
We have been thinking about why such a situation occurs. What are the drawbacks of this situation? Can we find one or more solutions, even theoretically. The key point is what angle we should consider.
