According to the latest data released by the Internet traffic monitoring agency Statcounter, after the European Windows user browser's self-selection interface was launched, the market share of Microsoft Internet Explorer has declined in major European countries such as France, Britain and Italy.
According to the agreement reached between Microsoft and the European Union, Microsoft will allow about 0.2 billion European Windows users to install the default browser from the selection interface consisting of 12 browsers.
According to Statcounter data, in March this year, the market share of IE browser in France fell by February from that in 2.5%, the market share in the UK fell by 1%, and the market share in Italy fell by 1.3%.
At the same time, the world's fourth-largest browser Opera has more than doubled downloads in Europe, with downloads more than three times in Italy, Spain, and Poland. Mozilla, the world's second-largest browser vendor, said its Firefox browser has seen a significant increase in downloads. A Mozilla spokesman said: "The number of Firefox users has increased significantly since the browser selection interface was launched. We expect that the number of Firefox users will continue to grow after the browser selection interface is launched for all countries ."
Prior to this, the small browser vendor submitted a petition to the EU requesting Microsoft to modify the Windows browser selection interface. Microsoft's original browser selection interface places Microsoft IE8, Apple Safari, Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, and opera in the center of the interface, as a result, many users do not know how to drag the interface to view more browser options.
Browser vendor Flock said in a statement: "So far, the new Flock downloads brought about by the browser selection interface have only a small portion of the total downloads. This is also true for other browsers that are not in the center of the browser selection interface ."
Flock said in the statement: "We hope that the modification request we submit to the EU can be implemented as soon as possible, so that all browsers on the right of the selection interface can have reasonable opportunities for European users to discover."
Microsoft said that the current browser selection interface complies with relevant EU regulations.
