Analysis of IOT and smart planet from a technical perspective

At the last summit forum, I talked with some bloggers about the two hot topics of IOT and smart planet. During the conversation, I found that from a technical point of view, there are many similarities between the two, and this article is a summary of that sentiment. This article will first introduce the concepts of IOT and smart planet, and then introduce the technical differences between the two and their relationship with cloud computing.

 

Iot

The Internet of Things (IOT) is abbreviated as "the Internet of Things. This name indicates that IOT is the Internet connected to things ". There are two meanings: first, the core and foundation of the Internet of Things are still the Internet, which is an extension and expansion of the Internet. Second, its user end extends and extends to any item and item for information exchange and communication. Therefore, Iot is defined to connect any item to the Internet through information sensing devices such as RFID devices, infrared sensors, global positioning systems, and laser scanners, A network for information exchange and communication to achieve intelligent identification, positioning, tracking, monitoring and management.

 

Smart planet

IBM's vision of a smart planet outlines three important dimensions of the smart way of the world. First, we need to be able to more thoroughly perceive and measure the nature and changes of the world. Second, our world is more fully interconnected. Third, on this basis, all things, processes, and running methods are more deeply intelligent, and we also get more intelligent insights. When these smart ways are more universal and more widely applied to people, natural systems, social systems, business systems and various organizations, and even cities and countries, the "smart Earth" will become a reality. This kind of application will bring new savings and efficiency-but it is equally important to provide new opportunities for progress.

 

Technical differences

From this figure, we can see that the technical difference between IOT and smart planet is that IOT places great emphasis on data collection through various sensors (such as RFID, infrared sensors, and GPS, smart planet emphasizes "wisdom", that is, data analysis through the Bi layer.

 

Relationship with cloud computing

Speaking of the relationship between the two and cloud computing, I personally think that IOT should be a cloud-based application, that is, to store and process the data received from sensors in the cloud, the range of a smart planet is far greater than that of IOT, or even greater than that of cloud computing, so I personally think it should be a continuation of cloud computing.
