Windows Internet Information Server (IIS) is a commonly used WEB and FTP site setup tool. It is widely used in the Internet due to its simple operation and ease of use. IIS applications in the network are complex and diverse. Its default configuration parameters cannot meet the needs of each website. Therefore, many users customize IIS website configurations. However, when there is a problem with the IIS server, it is very troublesome to reset these parameters. The simplest method is to back up IIS Site configuration parameters. If a problem occurs, restore or transplant the site. Below I will introduce several common methods to back up and restore IIS website configuration information.
Method 1: Use the built-in IIS tools
Take Windows XP IIS5.1 as an example. In the "Internet Information Service" Console window, right-click the Local Computer and choose "all tasks" backup/restore configuration in the pop-up menu, in the "Configure backup/restore" dialog box, click the "Create backup" button (figure 1). In the "Configure backup" dialog box, create a backup name. If you want to encrypt the backup file, select the "encrypt backup with password" option, enter the encrypted password, and click "OK" to complete the backup operation. The restore operation is also simple. In the "Configure backup/restore" dialog box, select the backup you need and click "Restore.
The built-in backup and restoration functions of IIS can only be used on the local server. However, if you want to port the IIS website configuration information to other servers on the network, this tool does not work.
Method 2: Use the IIS backup wizard
Download the tool from the http://www.jb51.net/softs/11624.html. After installation, the IIS backup wizard first detects all the sites included in the IIS server and then backs up the site configuration information. In the "IIS Site List" box in the main window, select the site you want to back up (Figure 2), such as the default website, and click "Export site" to bring up the "Export IIS Site" dialog box, in the "select files used to save data" column, specify the path and file name of the backup file, and click "OK" to back up the website configuration information. The IIS backup wizard saves the website configuration information in the TXT file. To restore the file, click "Import site" in the main window, in the import dialog box, select the website configuration file you have backed up and click "OK" to restore the file. In addition, the IIS backup wizard can also copy the backup file to the server to be migrated, and then use the "Import site" function to complete the migration.
However, the IIS backup wizard also has some shortcomings. Because the IIS server versions of different Windows systems are also different, such as Windows 2003 built-in IIS5.0, Windows XP is IIS5.1, and Windows is IIS6.0, the configuration information formats of these websites may also be different. Different versions of IIS website configuration information are transplanted to each other, which may cause errors on the IIS server. Therefore, the IIS backup wizard can only be used to port configuration information between IIS websites of the same version.
Method 3: IIS backup and restoration tool-IIS Export Utility
IIS Export Utility (IISEU) has powerful backup and restoration functions. In addition, it can also port IIS Site configuration information between different servers, because it supports IIS4, IIS5, and IIS6 at the same time, we can port the IIS Site configuration information of different versions, for example, port the IIS Site configuration information in Windows NT 4.0, Windows 2000, and Windows2003.
● Backup operation
Install and run iiseuon http://www.jb51.net/softs/42425.html. In the IISEU Main Window (figure 3), select the "An IIS Server" tab from the "Import from" box on the left, enter the machine name or IP address of the IIS server, such as localhost, in the blank bar below, and then select the IIS version type. It supports IIS 4, IIS5, and IIS6, in the "Type of site" box, select the site Type to be backed up, such as WWW. Click the "Lists Sites" button to list all site information of the local IIS server in the list box, select the site you want to back up. If you are using the official version of IISEU, you can select multiple sites at a time.
Switch to the "Database" tab in the "Export to" box on the right, and select the version type of IIS. The two sides must be consistent. Click the "Export" button to back up the site information and save the website configuration information to the mdb database file.
● Restore operation
Once the backed up website has an error, you can restore it. Switch to the "Database" tab in the "Import from" box, select the "WWW" option in the "Type of site" box, and click "List Sites, in the "Available Sites" box, select the backup file you need. Enter the local name in the "Export Server" box, select the "Overwrite existing webs" option, make sure that the same IIS version is selected on both sides, and click "Export ", restore the IIS Site.
● Porting
If you want to port the IIS website on the network, it is very convenient to use the IISEU tool. It supports migration between different versions of IIS sites. In the IISEU Main Window (figure 5), the boxes on both the left and right sides represent the local and remote IIS sites, both of which must be switched to the "An IIS Server" tab, enter the machine name or IP address in the blank bar on both sides. Then, select the website to be transplanted and other IIS versions in the local IIS Site box on the left, select the IIS version in the Remote IIS box on the right, and select the "Overwrite existing webs" option, finally, click "Export" to port the IIS Site.
