There are two ways to configure a Nortel Networks router. One is to use a PC or terminal to configure the port (Console) of the Nortel Networks router; one is to use the Telnet command on the network and use the GUI router configuration software Site Manager provided by Nortel Networks. However, when using the second method, you must have correctly configured the IP address used to connect the router to the LAN so that the IP address can be reached. In comparison, the first method is more universal. The following two methods are described respectively..
I. hardware configuration
---- We can use a PC or terminal to configure the port through the Nortel Networks router.
---- As shown in Figure 1.1, create a local configuration environment and prepare a personal computer with the Windows 95/98/NT operating system installed. Use the random configuration cable to connect the COM1 serial port of the PC or terminal to the configuration port of the Nortel Networks ASN router, and then turn on the power of the PC and the router.

2. Create a Super Terminal with a PC. Select "start" * "program" * "attachment" * "communication" *, double-click the hypertrm.exe file, enter the name of the Super Terminal to be created, and select an icon (2 ), click OK.

---- In the displayed dialog box, select the "connect to serial 1" option (3) in the "connect to use" option, and then set the COM1 attribute, set the communication rate to 9600bps, 8-Bit Data bit, 1-bit stop bit, no parity check, and control the data stream to Xon/Xoff (4). Click OK, the PC or terminal will be connected to the vro.

---- If remote configuration is required, set up the remote configuration environment as shown in Figure 5. Note that you must use the local configuration method to set the configured port as a connection Modem Port (because the default value of the configured port is the local configuration port) before remote configuration ), connect the randomly configured cable to the Console port and Modem port of the router. The next step is to connect the PC to the Modem and install the Modem in the control panel. Instead of using the COM1 serial port when creating a super terminal connection, use the Modem you have installed.

3. Save the settings in Nortel Networks ASN. ht. Next time, you can directly start Nortel Networks ASN from the Super Terminal.
---- 4. if the router is connected, "Nortel Networks, Inc. "and" Copyright year "and" Login ": Enter the logon user name. There are only two User names, one is the Manager with higher permissions, and the other is the User with lower permissions. The new vro does not have a password. Enter the login User name and press enter to enter; A vro that has been configured may have a password. Only the Manager password can be used to reconfigure the vro. After logon, The vro enters the Technician Interface command line status, the prompt displayed is [] $. You can use the TI command to configure the vro.
---- 5. When remote configuration is required, log on locally and enter the following command in the command line:
---- [1:1] $ set wfSerialPortEntity. wfSerialPortModemEnable.1 1
---- [1:1] $ commit
---- Now, The vromodem can connect to the Modem by configuring the port.
Ii. Software Configuration
----We can also use the Telnet command on the network and use the GUI router configuration software Site Manager provided by Nortel Networks.
---- 1. the local configuration method enters the Technician Interface command line status. Make sure that the Flash Memory cardhas the Installation File install.bat、startup file asn.exe and the initial configuration file ti_asn.cfg. Then, Run "[] $ boot 1: asn.exe 1: ti_asn.cfg" in the command line status, and run Install. bat to configure the initial lan ip address of the router.
---- Configure the instance (taking Nortel Networks ASN as an example) as follows:
---- Number of the slot holding the link module for the first network interface:
---- Slot 1
---- Number of the connector (port) on the link module:
---- Ethernet connector 2
---- Circuit name: E12
---- IP address of this initial interface: 192.168.125.34
---- Subnet mask of this initial interface: 255.255.255.0
---- Choose an IP routing protocol: RIP
---- Shocould RIP listen to the default route to the network or subnet where the workstation is located? Yes
---- Select the RIP version: RIP1
---- Enable SNMP Community Management? Yes
---- Enable TFTP? Yes
---- Default volume where TFTP transactions will take place: 1
---- Enable FTP? Yes
---- Default volume where FTP transactions will take place: 1
---- Enable Telnet? Yes
---- Enable Telnet client? Yes
---- Enable Telnet server? Yes
---- Enable the HTTP (Web) server? Yes
---- IP address of the workstation that you will use to configure the router: 192.168.20.12
---- From the instance, we can obtain the IP address of the PC as 192.168.20.12, The subnet mask as 255.255.255.0, And the IP address of the router port as 192.168.125.34.
---- Connect the UTP line of the RJ45 header in the LAN to the second Ethernet port of the first module of the router to connect the router to the LAN, as shown in 2.6.

3. Set the PC with the Windows 95/98/NT operating system to access the network, the IP address to 192.168.20.12, And the subnet mask to 255.255.255.0.
---- If you want to use Site Manager for configuration, install Site Manager on drive C.
---- 4. Select "start" * "run" and enter "Telnet 192.168.125.34" in the run window to connect to the vro and log on to the vro. Then, you can configure the vro.
---- If you want to use Site Manager for configuration, select "start" * "program" * "Site Manager" * "PC_Site Manager" to enter the graphic user interface for configuration.
