Backup restore of chrome extensions

Google Browser as a very common now a browser, in its application store has a large number of feature extensions to choose from, so first we have to see how it is extended backup and restore.

Start running the installation of Google Browser, in the Address bar, enter the "chrome://version/" parameter command and press ENTER, you can see the current browser related information. Find the "Personal Data path" option in the information window that appears, followed by a complete path information (Figure 1). After copying the path information, paste it into the explorer's address bar and press ENTER to open the folder where the browser configuration information is stored. Then in the folder to find a directory named "Extensions", opened it can see a number of different subdirectories, where each of the subdirectories saved an extension of the file information.

But the names of these subdirectories seem to be a string of irregular characters, so how do you know what information is stored in each subdirectory? First open to Google Browser App Store, click on the App Store's homepage for an extended icon, You can see the details of the extended file on the pop-up page. But what we need to look at is the information in the address bar of the Web page, now that you have deleted all the information after the last "/" symbol, and then paste the file name of any subdirectory into the "/" symbol, press ENTER to see a new Extension File introduction page (Figure 2). The extension file that the Web page describes is the extended file that is saved by this subdirectory. In this way, after you know the extended files saved by each subdirectory, then select the extended file subdirectory that you want to save, and then compress and package the subdirectories. Finally, the resulting compressed file is saved elsewhere, which completes the backup operation of the extended file.

Later when we need to do extended file restore, first in the Address bar input command "about:flags" command and enter, you can enter into the browser's lab. Then click the menu button in the upper right corner and click "Find" in the pop-up menu. Then in the pop-up search box inside the keyword "experimental extender API", find this option to click the following "Enable" button to start, and finally follow the prompts to restart the browser can be (Figure 3). Then click the menu button in the upper-right corner of Google's browser and select the "Extender" command in the "Tools" menu, which allows you to see the extension Program's admin page. Select the Developer mode check box at the top right of the Administration page, and then click the Load Unzipped Extender button on the upper left. In the Pop-up dialog window to select the folder just extracted, this will pop up a prompt window and click the "Add" button, the browser can be extended file to restore the operation of the installation.

Small tip:

Because many domestic browsers are developed on the basis of chromium, the above method is also applicable to these browser software. However, it should be noted that each browser control commands are not the same, so in the execution of the command can not simply apply the above commands. For each browser setting, refer to the browser's help information.

Backup restore for Firefox extensions

In addition to the Google browser just mentioned, Firefox is also a common browser, and it also has a large number of feature extensions for users to choose from. What about Firefox's feature extensions and how do you do backup and restore operations? First in the Firefox browser's address bar, enter the "about:support" command and press ENTER to enter the browser's "Troubleshooting" page. Where you find the extension area, you can see a table with the extended feature extension, which clearly shows the corresponding relationship between the extended name and the extended ID (Figure 4).

Next click on the "Show folder" button in the page "Application Profile" and open the "Extensions" directory in the pop-up window to find the corresponding extension file based on the ID information for the extended name. It then compresses and packs the extended file that needs to be backed up, which completes the backup operation of the Firefox browser extension.

When the user needs to restore the Firefox browser extension, first open the "Extensions" directory, and then extract the backup extension file into the directory. Then restart Firefox, and the browser pops up a warning window asking if the user is allowed to install the extended file (Figure 5). If it is true that the user needs to install the extension file, click on the "Continue" button can be installed. Next, click on the "Open menu" button in the upper-right corner and click "Attach Component" in the pop-up menu. Then in the pop-up window, select the "Extended" item in the list on the left, find the extension file just installed in the list, click on the "Enable" button and restart the browser as prompted, so that the functionality extension of Firefox is restored.

If the user feels the manual operation is more troublesome, may also consider to try other methods. For example, first install an extension in Firefox browser named Febe, and then follow the way you just opened the browser extensions list, find Febe This click the "Options" button. In the "Backup content" tab of the pop-up dialog box, select Backup extensions, and then in the "Backup Location" tab, set up a directory to hold the extensions (Figure 6). Next, in the "Backup Time" tab, choose a backup method that you think is appropriate, such as scheduled backups or startup backups. When the setup is complete, click OK, and the Febe extension will automatically back up the extension. When the user needs to restore, click the "FEBE" command on the "Tools" menu and select "Restore Extensions" from the submenu.
