Command for configuring the dhcp service of a Cisco Router

Assume that two Cisco routers and R1 (server) connect to R2 (client) to form a simple chained lan. DHCP is implemented below. The configuration commands and explanations are as follows:

1. Configure the R1 dhcp Service

Dhcp # configure terminal

// Enter global Mode

Dhcp (config) # service dhcp

// Enable the dhcp Function

Dhcp (config) # no ip dhcp conflictlogging

// Disable dhcp logging

Dhcp (config) # ip dhcp pool cisco

// Configure the dhcp server name as cisco

Dhcp (dhcp-config) # network 192.168.1.0 255.255.255.0

// Configure the IP address range to be allocated to the dhcp server

Dhcp (dhcp-config) # default-router 192.168.1.1

// Configure the default gateway as 192.168.1.1

Dhcp (dhcp-config) # dns-server 192.168.1.1

// Configure the dns server as 192.168.1.1

Dhcp (dhcp-config) # exit

// Exit the dhcp Configuration Mode

Dhcp (config) # ipdhcpexcluded-address 192.168.1.200 192.168.1.254

// Configure IP addresses not allocated by dhcp

2. The R2 client obtains the IP address.

Client # configureterminal

// Enter global Mode

Dhcp (config) # interfacefastethernet0/0

// Enter the fastethernet0/0 interface

Dhcp (config-if) # ipaddress dhcp

// Obtain the IP address from the dhcp server
