What would our analysis look like if the tools were so coarse? But fortunately we are constantly finding problems and constantly solving problems. We grow up in mistakes and progress in problems.
1 How does Google Analytics calculate 24-hour data?
The Google Analytics report provides us with an hourly indicator of data. Whether it is the number of visits, conversion rate, or bounce rate and other indicators, we can be a 24-hour time dimension to subdivide. Here is a screenshot of the bounce rate report broken down by 24 hours.
Through the report we can see that the number of visits at 8 in the morning is 800. Now the question is, 8 points of access to the number of indicators to represent what? is the number of visits to the 7-8-point web site? or 8 points-9 points? How does Google analytics calculate hourly metrics? Here, we have two ways to get the answer.
Method 1: View real-time data for the day of the website.
Looking at the 24-hour data for the day in the Google Analytics report, we find that 0 points in the report have begun to have data since 0 o'clock midnight, indicating that Google Analytics is rolled forward when calculating 24-hour data. That means that the 0 o'clock data is 0 to 1 points, and the morning 8 is actually 8 in the morning-9 points of data, and so on.
Method 2: View the 24-hour time stamp
Take a closer look at Google Analytics's 24-hour report we found that the starting point for the data record is 0 points, and the end point is 23. According to this record, Google Analytics The hourly reporting method must be rolled forward. This is also consistent with the judgment in our approach.
2 issues to be aware of when adding e-business code
Google Analytics's E-commerce code is the custom code used to record the visitor's shopping cart information. But the electronic commerce code is not the electricity merchant website privilege. Non-E-commerce sites can also use this code to track the types of information you want to capture. I recently encountered this problem when adding electrical quotient code to the website, which is also the target page of my website, which is a different subdomain from other pages. After adding the electrical quotient code, all transformations of the website are recorded for the direct traffic source. At the same time, the source of the buyer's report is also recorded as the source of direct traffic. The conversion and purchase of other flow channels are 0.
By looking at the cookie values on a page-by-sheet basis, and comparing the return data of each page, the problem is caused by the fact that the electrical quotient code was added in front of the Google Analytics default tracking code. After the two-segment code is replaced (the electrical quotient code is adjusted to the default tracking code), the problem disappears and the conversion rate in the report returns to normal. So, if your default tracking code implements Cross-domain tracking, then the electrical quotient code must be placed behind the default code.
3 Why is there still a flow of traffic after the advertisement has been put off?
Now almost all the sites are in the SEM ads, or all kinds of banner ads. If you use the UTM tag for this type of traffic, in the days after the stop to see if Google Analytics also from the SEM or banner traffic. I believe most of them will. And in the end of the period of time, the remaining of these advertising flows are usually relatively high quality.
Why is this so? It is mainly caused by two kinds of reasons. 1 in Google Analytics, hand-tagged traffic priority is higher than direct access. Therefore, if the visitor last time by clicking the ad to visit the site, and then directly enter the domain name to visit the site, will still be recorded as advertising traffic. 2 Some visitors will collect URLs, and when they collect the tagged URLs in the ads, the next visit will still be recorded as ad traffic, and your ad may already be gone.
Usually, visit the website can remember the site, and direct access to the site's visitors, and willing to collect your site visitors are more loyal visitors. So their access quality will be higher than the average visitor. At the same time, we can also see the traffic from the advertisement after the advertisement promotion activity is over, then also can explain from one side the advertisement is successful. But now visitors are lazy, so this kind of traffic is often very small, and the duration is very short.
4 Why is the navigation analysis subsequent page traffic accounted for is not 100%?
A lot of friends ask Google Analytics's navigation Analysis report why the page access ratio is not 100%. Is that the case? I have a previous report that uses the Google Analytics filter to create content groups, and when we summarize the pages, we see 100% of the traffic coming in and out. Not all pages are listed directly in Google Analytics, but the first 10-bit pages are listed.
If you want to see all the traffic flow into the source and whereabouts, simply export the navigation Analysis report. The same way to export 20,000 keyword reports at once, use the CSV format and add &limit=20000 after the export link. Then in Excel in the data collation, you can see all the traffic source and go to the page.
5 Can you create 10,000 senior visits groups?
Are you familiar with the advanced group features of Google Analytics? Have you ever created 10,000 senior groups of visits? I haven't tried, but my colleagues have done it. But I'm sorry to have failed. I was a fool when he came to ask me why. Yes, the site visits tens of thousands of times a day, why not create 10,000 groups of visits? But then I realized there was a problem.
The index in the senior group is based on the visitor, has our website ever visited 10,000 times? I think it's hard for a loyal visitor to reach that number. The last set of numbers in the content section of the screenshot above shows the number of visits, even my own blog, which I have only visited 1152 times. So, if you don't have such a loyal visitor, you won't be able to create such a group.
