Concept: Google Desktop Search, delicious, and knowledge management

Google Desktop Search

Google Desktop Search is a keyword-based document management system used to search documents, webpage access history, emails, and IM chat records on users' hard disks. The principle of Google Desktop Search is to search the full text of a specified file in idle CPU time, and extract the keywords for index arrangement. Google Desktop Search not only displays the document name, abstract, and location, but also saves the document modification history and even deleted documents for searching and viewing.

Delicious

Introduce another network application: delicious (URL: http://del.icio.us, someone called it "delicious bookmarks "). Delicious is actually a network bookmarks system.

After applying for a delicious user, we can record our favorite website in our own directory and specify keywords based on the content of the webpage. Delicious records the URL for you and classifies the webpage based on the keyword. Delicious can find other people who have recorded this URL, and then enter the bookmarks directory of these people to see what they have added to their favorites, so that they can often find webpages that are highly correlated with a topic. This is actually a kind of artificial index network search.

With delicious, you can not only search for webpages, but also find people. Through keywords and web pages, you can search for bookmarked collectors to find people who are particularly interested in certain areas of knowledge. For example, I want to know the history of Thailand. I have searched some webpages related to this, but I still don't think it is enough. I want to find someone who has studied this. Delicious is a good place to go.

Knowledge Management

What is knowledge management? There is no uniform definition for knowledge management. A knowledge management system should be able to store information and effectively transfer, share, and discover knowledge 【 Reference ].

If a knowledge management system can combine the features of Google Desktop Search and delicious, it can better achieve: 1. quickly and accurately access key commercial materials by keyword indexing; 2. Discover people with certain professional skills in the organization and explore how to share these skills 【 Reference ].

Google currently provides two types of searches: Web search and desktop search. Web Search targets all web pages in the world, while Desktop Search targets hard disks on PCs. For enterprises, either of these two goals is too big or too small. If you can properly define the search target and search all business information in the enterprise, it will play an excellent role in managing the knowledge of the enterprise.
