Configure XP as a VPN Server

Enable the remote access component of xp, Which is disabled by default. Open services. msc, find the Routing and Remote Access Service, set the Startup Type to automatic, and start the service.

Open the user page, select a user that allows remote dial-in, or create a user.

Open the network page and make sure that the IPX/SPX protocol is installed on your computer. The settings are complete on the server.

Click "connect to my workplace network"

Enter the company name and click Next.

Enter the IP address of the VPN Server,

The server automatically generates a 169.254.0.0/16 CIDR block address. The client is assigned a CIDR block address for normal communication.

When Using XP as a VPN Server, only one user can access the server at the same time. If other users access the server, the following error occurs.

This experiment proves that XP can be used as a VPN Server and has been successfully tested on the ADSL dial-up network. From the entire process and experimental results, the "incoming connection" of the XP system is the lite version of the VPN function in the Windows2003 RRA service. For example, the Client IP address cannot be configured, and the client cannot set the time and other inbound restrictions, at the same time, only one user can be connected, which seems to be of little use. But as a personal operating system, In addition, simple operations do not require any third-party software or complex settings, the VPN function is sufficient for small office environments or home networks.

Disadvantages:
