Diagnose common faults of ipvst5000 switch ports

Diagnose common faults of ipvst5000 switch ports. The port analysis feature of ipvst5000 provides a powerful fault diagnosis method. This feature can copy packets sent or received by the port under investigation to the span port. The span port is disabled by default. Therefore, you must configure the Port during use.

For example, if the workstation connecting port 6/9 fails, we copy the packets from the port to port 10/1, which is used as the analysis port. The LAN analyzer can connect to port 10/1 and diagnose faults without interrupting or interfering with the current message stream.
C5505> (enable) set span enable
C5505> (enable) set span 6/9 10/1
Enable monitoring of port 6/9 transmit/receive traffic by port 10/1
C5505> (enable) sh span
Status: enable
Admin source ort 6/9
Required source ort 6/9
Destination ort 10/1
Direction: transmit/receive
Incoming packet: disable
C5505> (enable)

We can also use the above method to listen to multiple ports. In addition, we can copy the packets of the entire VLAN to the destination SPAN port. At the same time, we can also get only sent or received packets through attributes. The forbidden message statement indicates that packets whose destination port is SPAN are prohibited by default.

In the following example, only frames sent from VLAN2 to port 10/1 SPAN are transmitted. Port 11/7-9 is located in VLAN2, so we can set port 11/7-9 as the source port to achieve the same effect. When configuring and using SPAN. Note:

◆ Different vswitches and hubs, each vswitch port is separated into conflicting domains. Therefore, when copying a port or a group of ports to a SPAN port, you cannot simply listen on the line. The SPAN port only obtains the frames sent from the source port to other CIDR blocks or from other CIDR blocks to the source port, including broadcasts. Transparent bridge rules can be applied here. For example, if a hub is connected to the source port, messages sent between two workstations are not copied to the SPAN port because it does not pass the source switch port.

◆ The port of the spanstmst5000 switch can be a part of a normal vlan. However, the port cannot be added to the spanning tree, so it is best not to set it like this. By default, this port is located in vlan1. to avoid loops, set the span destination port to its own VLAN.

◆ When copying the port in the G-bit Ethernet module, you must monitor the two-way forwarding packets. For another restriction of this module, the Source and Destination spanstmst5000 switch ports must be in the same interface card.

◆ At the same time, you should also note that it is in the ipvst5000 switch port. The FDDI module supports SPAN.
C5505> (enable) set span 2 10/1 tx
Enable monitoring of VLAN transmit traffic by port 10/1
C5505> (enable) sh span
Status: enable
Admin Source: vlan 2
Required source ort 11/7-9
Destination ort 10/1
Direction: transmit
Incoming Packet: disabled
C5505> (enable)
