1. Software Installation

1. Download directfb and directfb-Example
Direct Official Website: http://www.directfb.org/

2. Decompress these two files
Tar-zxf DirectFB-1.6.2.tar.gz
Tar-zxf DirectFB-examples-1.6.0.tar.gz

3. install necessary package
If you want to install directfb on your own, you need tools such as Autoconf and automake.
Sudo apt-Get installautoconf
Sudo apt-Get installlibtool (used by autoreconf)

4. Install DirectFB-1.6.2

1) CD DirectFB-1.6.2

2)./configure

A) if the following prompt appears in the./configure step:
PNG support is missing-Fetch applications won't work correctly!
JPEG support is missing-processing applications won't work correctly!

Solution: sudo apt-cache search libpng
Sduo apt-Get install libpng12-dev

Sudo apt-cache search libjpeg
Sudo apt-Get install libjpeg62-dev

3) make

A) error:

Libtool: Version mismatch error. This is libtool 2.4.2 Debian-2.4.2-1ubuntu1, but
Libtool: definition of this lt_init comes from libtool 2.2.6b.
Libtool: You shoshould recreate aclocal. M4 with macros from libtool 2.4.2 Debian-2.4.2-1ubuntu1
Libtool: And run Autoconf again.

Solution:

Autoreconf -- force -- install
./Configure

B) Make, error:

.../../Libtool: Line 984: G ++: Command not found

Solution: sudo apt-get-y install g ++

C) make, error:

Libtool: Link: unsupportedhardcodeproperties
Libtool: Link: see the libtool documentation for more information.
Libtool: Link: fatal configuration error.

Solution:

./Configure
Make clean
Make

5. Install DirectFB-examples-1.6.0

The process of installing directfb-example is roughly the same as that of directfb. I will not go into details here.
I only open the -- enable-debug option, and use its default value for others.

Cd ~ DirectFB-examples-1.6.0
Autoreconf
./Configure -- enable-Debug
Make
Sudo make install

The latest kernel already supports framebuffer. You only need to specify relevant parameters for startup, such as "VGA = resolution. The specific settings are as follows:

VI/etc/default/GRUB

1. Find the following line: grub_cmdline_linux = "" add the VGA = ** mentioned above. The result is as follows:

Grub_cmdline_linux = "VGA = 792"

2. Set another line:

Grub_gfxmode = 1024x768

This line was originally commented out, and the resolution needs to be set to be consistent with VGA = 792 above.

3. Update the grub configuration file as follows:

Sudoupdate-grub

After the restart, you can use framebuffer on other tty servers. For example, press Alt + Ctrl + F1 to enter v1st terminal and log on to it.

4. In addition, a common user needs to set the vedio viewing permission, for example:

Sudochmod O + RW/dev/fb0

Whether it is a ATI or NVIDIA video card, enabling the restricted driver on ubuntu10.04 system (or manually installing the official driver) will cause the splash resolution to decrease. As this problem is common in ubuntu10.04, many cool people provide us with solutions, the following is a solution that I have seen on the Ubuntu Chinese Forum (refer to the three posts above) and tried and solved the problem in person.

1. Install the v86d and hwinfo packages. We will use them below.

Sudo apt-Get install v86d hwinfo

2. view the resolution supported by your video card.

Sudo hwinfo -- framebuffer

3. Modify the/etc/default/GRUB file and start it using the framebuffer of uvesafb.

Sudo gedit/etc/default/GRUB

Put the following two rows

Grub_cmdline_linux_default = "quietsplash"

# Grub_gfxmode = 640x480

To:

Grub_cmdline_linux_default = "quietsplash nomodeset Video = uvesafb: mode_option = 1366x768-24, mtrr = 3, scroll = ywrap"

(PS: nomodeset disables kernel kms, my opinion)

Grub_gfxmode = 1366X768

This should be modified according to the maximum resolution supported by the video card (of course, other supported resolutions) found in step 1. Note that you should remove the # above.

4. Modify the/etc/initramfs-tools/modules file.

Sudo gedit/etc/initramfs-tools/modules

Add the following line:

Uvesafb mode_option = 1366x768-24 mtrr = 3 scroll = ywrap

(PS: the modification in this step is consistent with that in section 1st in the previous step)

5. Run the following command to enable framebuffer.

Echo framebuffer = Y | sudo tee/etc/initramfs-tools/CONF. d/splash

6. Run the following command to update the grub configuration and the initramfs image file.

Sudo Update-grub
Sudo Update-initramfs-u

7. Restart.

Related Problems and Solutions:
After following the steps above, it does solve the problem of low boot splash resolution, but there is another problem: failure to use the virtual console (tty1-6), that is, switch to the virtual console-"black screen ".

If you cannot log on to the console after this modification, you need to add the VGA = xxx parameter.

In fact, this problem should also be caused by the use of the official closed-source drive (or restricted drive), that is, not caused by the above operations.
Accordingly, add the VGA = xxx parameter in step 1 of the preceding step.

Grub_cmdline_linux_default = "quietsplash nomodeset Video = uvesafb: mode_option = 1366x768-24, mtrr = 3, scroll = ywrap VGA = 792"

Note that 792 represents 1024x768x16 m (the resolution rate is 1024x768, and the color depth is 24 bits), which can be set according to your own situation.
