Indefinite article refers to the term, the definite article refers specifically.

Indefinite article A (an) and numeral one homologous, is "a" meaning. A is used before a consonant phoneme, generally read as [E], and an is used before a vowel phoneme, generally read [en].
1) means "one", meaning "a", a person or something that means a certain.
A Mr. Ling is waiting for you.
2) representing a class of persons or objects
A knife is a tool for cutting with.
Mr Smith is an engineer.

The definite article the This,that homologous with the demonstrative pronoun, has the meaning of "that (this)", but is weak, can be used with a noun, to indicate one or some particular person or thing.
Use of definite articles:
1) A person or thing that is understood by both parties:

2) The person or thing mentioned above:
